Lighting played a crucial role in the new construction of stables De Wolfshoeve in Huijbergen. Performance in Lighting was commissioned to provide the entire grounds, including riding halls, stables and outdoor areas, with appropriate lighting. In collaboration with Luxor Licht, a customized lighting plan was developed that met the needs of both riders and animals.
"Our client Luxor Licht came to us with the project and trusted us to provide the best solution from A to Z," says Jeroen Appelhof, Account Manager at Performance in Lighting | powered by GEWISS. "We sat down with the client and architect to determine which fixtures were best suited."
A major point of discussion was the choice between line and point lighting for the riding halls. "Line lighting was suggested as the first option by other parties, but many of these fixtures are not dust and waterproof. That is not ideal in an equestrian center environment," explains Appelhof. "Spot lighting offers nicer shadows and is more pleasant for the animals. We hung a demo and the choice eventually fell on point lighting, also because of its robustness and low maintenance." In addition, light color played a role. The desire was for a higher Kelvin value for film and photography, but Performance in Lighting recommended 4000K. "That is more pleasant for people and animals and provides a natural light experience," Appelhof said.
In addition to the primary point lighting in the riding halls - with more than 100 fixtures - the entire grounds were provided with thoughtful lighting. The parking lot and building are highlighted, as are the two large indoor arenas. The outdoor riding arenas remain unlit, but the paths around the building are equipped with Mimik Post lights to ensure safe and clear routing. The stables also feature lighting from Performance in Lighting, with downlights and wall fixtures.
Initial reactions to the new lighting have been positive. "People are enthusiastic: the lighting is functional and beautiful. It has a classic, yet modern look. Also, the glare is low, which is pleasant for both riders and horses," says Appelhof. In addition, the lighting meets the requirements for competition facilities. "For approval of the competition arena by NOC*NSF, we had to exceed 1000 lux, and we succeeded." Thus, De Wolfshoeve offers not only a pleasant, but also a professional environment for equestrian sports.
