With WoodCream and DuroGrit, Rubio Monocoat offers a complete range for the versatile staining and durable protection of exterior wood. From wooden houses to cladding, canopies, verandas, luxury garden sheds, carports, fences and even garden furniture. The products are used by Prowood Netherlands, among others, which - with its maintenance-free wooden facade cladding - gives every home, school or office building a modern, natural and stylish look.
Prowood Netherlands was founded three years ago by Koen van de Mortel and Mathijs Lemmers, with the ambition of making thermally modified wood cladding entirely in-house. "We prefer to buy the wood raw from sawmills. Both in the Netherlands, Finland and Africa," Lemmers says. "Then this wood is thermally modified, after which the raw boards are stocked in Panningen. In total, we have 6 types of wood (Ayous, Fraké, Spruce, Poplar, Ash and Douglas) and 17 profiles at our disposal, with which we can fulfill any customer requirement. We also have a Prowood Reclaimed line, in collaboration with our partner A. van Liempd Demolition Companies, in which scrap wood from old buildings is sustainably reused. As soon as an order comes in to us, the cladding is made to exact customer dimensions and delivered within three weeks."
For finishing the wooden cladding, Prowood Netherlands makes exclusive use of Rubio Monocoat products, Lemmers says. "We started three years ago with the Rubio WoodCream monocoat system, with which wooden cladding can be treated all around in just a single layer. Because we work with a vacuum coater, this provides considerable capacity benefits. Cladding only has to cross the line once to guarantee beautiful coloring and long-term protection."
Lemmers is also very pleased with the appearance of WoodCream, which looks very natural. "WoodCream is not a traditional paint or lacquer product, but an innovative wax-based cream, with a hydrophobic character. The product is water repellent, which prevents annoying drying rings on the facade. Moreover, WoodCream can be sprayed industrially. In cooperation with Rubio Monocoat, we have developed seven proprietary colors, which are in stock as standard and which can be used to fill more than 80% of market demand. Together we have also managed to achieve a fire class B for our wooden facades with WoodCream finish."
WoodCream is specially developed for the long-term protection of vertical wood, says Sjoerd Bos, Sales Manager at Rubio Monocoat Netherlands. "Here the natural look and feel of the exterior wood is maintained at all times. The unique and active self-cleaning formula nourishes the wood intensively, preserves the breathable structure and makes the surface water repellent. As a result, the product will not flake off. The resulting pearl effect gives the wood a special dimension. As icing on the cake, the product with 0% VOC is also very environmentally friendly." Another unique feature is the low consumption. "Depending on the suction of the substrate, the consumption will be 50 to 80 g/m² per coat."
Thanks to its cream texture, WoodCream is easy to apply with a brush. Both on new and previously treated wood and without risk of dripping, Bos said. The monocoat system is available in 26 original colors. "In combination with WoodCream Softener, the color intensity of these colors can be reduced for a semi-transparent or grayed-out wood look."
"Following WoodCream, Prowood Netherlands recently added DuroGrit to its range of finishing products. "With this we are responding to the demand of architects and clients for a more transparent wood protection, in which the beautiful, brown color of thermal modification remains visible," said Lemmers. DuroGrit is a wood oil with a natural appearance that is also extremely durable, excellent UV resistance and highly ecological (0% VOC).
"Distinctive is the FibreGrit Technology, where added wood fibers give the oil a unique structure," Bos said. "This creates a perfect combination between a saturating and breathable monocoat system. The cellulose fibers are water-repellent, very strong and make the protective layer harder, which enhances wear resistance and makes the product excellent for facade and wall coverings, terraces, garden furniture, etc."
For the DuroGrit color range, Rubio Monocoat is aiming for a natural wood look. "We developed fourteen durable natural colors that look perfect on different types of wood. And of course a few eye-catching colors couldn't be missing."
Those who choose DuroGrit opt for a natural look and extreme uv-resistance in just one coat. "DuroGrit really brings the treated wood to life, thanks to three important factors," Bos points out. "First, we use natural color pigments, where the structure of oil in water gives visible depth to the colors. In addition, our patented FibreGrit Technology ensures that the colors are both transparent and have high-quality UV resistance." As a nice bonus, the texture of the product ensures that it does not drip when applied.
