Prevent noise pollution on roofs, install a noise barrier!

Not only in new construction projects, but also in existing buildings where air handling units, air conditioning units, heat pumps or other installations are installed, the applicable, strict noise requirements must be taken into account. If the units produce too much noise, a noise screen on the roof offers a solution so that the installations can still be used at full capacity.

ModuBar BV (a part of Kokosystems BV) can provide this excellently, says project manager Arjan Kick. "Our screens guarantee high sound absorption (Dla = 11 to 17dB(a)) and sound insulation (Rw = 30dB(a)), allowing building owners to also meet the (latest) noise requirements. In addition, our noise barriers are aesthetically pleasing as well as cost-effective."

ModuBar BV's noise barriers are modular, which means that a suitable, effective solution can be made for any roof and any project situation, Kick says. "At the base of the noise barriers is invariably a galvanized or powder-coated steel frame, between which ready-made panels are fitted. Each panel has an absorbent layer of mineral wool on the inside, finished with a plastic PE net and steel mesh. The back side of the panels comes standard with a coated steel sheet, which can be supplied in various colors. On request, zinc sheets, corrugated sheets and sheet piling are also available. These are piece-by-piece materials that are also used for wall finishing, creating one attractive and aesthetic whole. Also available are panels with recycled plastic tubes and coconut fibers, to which natural vegetation can adhere excellently."

Both ModuBar BV's steel column posts, frames and noise barriers can be finished in a variety of RAL colors. "In consultation, other materials and finishes are also possible."

Placement and assembly

Architects, contractors and end users also have wide choices for installation and assembly, depending on the building and roof construction. "With concrete wide slab floors, the noise barriers can be easily bonded to the roof structure with chemical anchors," Kick said. "In new construction, this work is usually done before the roof is closed, while in existing construction, the roof insulation is partially cut away. Another interesting option is to bolt the column posts to the existing or new steel structure. For screens up to a height of 2.0 meters, loose concrete blocks can be placed to which the column posts are attached."

For both existing and new situations

The noise barriers are excellent for use in existing situations, he emphasizes. "However, we prefer to get in touch with the architect and/or contractor already in the preparatory phase of the project so that the construction of the noise barriers can be optimally matched to the structure of the building. In this case, significant savings can be made on implementation costs."
