Millboard's unique composition gives homes a warm and durable character. "The material not only looks like real wood, but also exceeds its properties," says Bart Jannink, co-owner of Tholin Building Products. "We prove this, for example, in Sint Jansklooster, where a newly built home was recently enriched with Millboard panels in Shadow Line Golden oak and Shadow Line Burnt cedar."
The house in Sint Jansklooster is owned by Jaap Heetebrij, architect and owner of Team 2 Studio for Architecture in Vollenhoven. "The contact with this architectural firm came about three years ago through our external architect visitor," says Jannink. "Team 2 regularly designs wooden cladding, but was actually looking for a low-maintenance alternative that also doesn't discolor. We showed several Millboard samples and explained the product properties, after which a first project with Millboard was carried out. Owner Jaap Heetebrij was so enthusiastic about this that he subsequently also applied the Millboard panels for his own newly built home."
Heetebrij designed a modern house in a country style, with a wide view and where nature and materialization blend harmoniously. "The unique Millboard cladding fits in seamlessly with this and has been applied, for example, as a gable-filling element on some side walls and on the outbuilding. But also as an accent between the window frames and on the front door," said Jannink. "Channelsiding-style cladding Shadow Line was chosen, which guarantees a modern and exclusive look. Some of the panels are in Golden oak, creating a nice contrast, while in other places Burnt cedar was chosen. These panels appear to be burnt black - in accordance with the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique - and are finished by hand with a black layer of paint. This brings out the earthy tones very nicely."
"The natural authenticity of the Millboard panels can truly be called special," Jannink emphasizes. "Because the panels are colored and reworked by hand, a very natural hue is created. With this, Millboard guarantees timeless beauty and unparalleled quality, with the durability of color and appearance guaranteed for the long term. The fading is less than 4.5% - and for some colors even less than 2.5% over a period of ten years. As a result, residents save significantly on maintenance and painting costs, so the investment in Millboard quickly pays for itself."
"Millboard was developed as a better alternative to wood, without losing sight of durability," he summarizes. "The panels last many years longer than real wood, without sacrificing the look and feel. Moreover, the panels cannot crack, expand, expand or discolor, which saves a huge amount of maintenance. Nor is there any loss of production due to knots. Because of the quality components Millboard uses, the wood can stay in nature where it belongs."
Tholin offers an extensive range of Millboard panels. "All with their own color, structure and properties," Jannink points out. "The panels are made from largely recycled raw materials. At the base is a stone, which is ground into a very fine limestone powder and then combined with polyurethane resin and fiberglass, for example. No wood or wood fiber is involved in the production. Nevertheless, the appearance of wood is very closely approximated. For example, thanks to a wood-like pattern applied to a special top layer with the same properties as cork. Because the top layer closes very nicely after applying the fasteners, Millboard can be processed easily and without visible screws. This makes the product ideally suited for architectural projects such as here in Sint Jansklooster." Like real wood, the panels can be worked with standard tools, such as a miter saw, handsaw or jigsaw.
