TEC CAD College offers a free online tool that allows architects, landscape designers, and other users to import cadastral maps into AutoCAD and Revit. Originally intended as a support tool for students, the online map tool is now also widely used by external parties, notes Ronald Boeklagen, author of the AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, and Fusion 360 books and courses at TEC CAD College. “Google Analytics shows several hundred downloads per day, which clearly indicates that we are responding to a market need.”
The online tool at www.cadcollege.nl/CADTools converts information from the Land Registry into a DXF or PNG environmental map, with cadastral data such as parcel boundaries, buildings, and parcel numbers, suitable for use in Dutch design software, says Boeklagen. “In addition, all roads, sidewalks, and—in some municipalities—even municipal green spaces and trees are visible. Based on this, permit drawings (specification drawings) for the municipality can be created quickly and easily.”

The environmental maps are available in both 2D and (experimentally) in 3D, says Boeklagen. “All drawings are defined in national triangulation coordinates (RD coordinates), with the data displayed in mm. While the cadastral data is real-time, the road and sidewalk data is updated a few times a year.” He finds it particularly interesting that the width of the roads and sidewalks is extremely accurate. “This gives our online map tool added value over road maps with standard widths, such as those viewed in AutoCAD.”
In addition to cadastral maps, BGT images (Basic Registration of Large-Scale Topography) and aerial photographs can also be added, says Boeklagen. “This additional data provides insight into elements such as ditches or buildings that are not always mentioned in the cadastral register.” It is also possible to generate 3D models based on the General Elevation Map of the Netherlands (AHN3). “These highly accurate models are suitable for BIM applications and give architects, designers, and other users early insight into how their projects will fit into the landscape.”
For over 30 years, TEC CAD College has been a leading training center in the Dutch CAD world. It has developed from a consultancy firm for CAD implementation into a renowned training provider, which has been awarded the title of ‘Best Autodesk Training Center in the Netherlands’ three times in a row. The training program includes classroom training, textbooks, online exercises, and complete learning paths to positions such as CAD system manager or 3D designer, including a higher professional education (HBO) certificate. Thanks to its small-scale nature, a high level of personal guidance and aftercare is possible.
