Rainwater drainage gains importance

Family business Van den Berg drains has been run by the third generation since 2019; Joost, Joey and Femke van den Berg. They provide the company with new impulses. For example, they focus on the development of sustainable new products and sales around the world.

Joost van den Berg: "Precisely rainwater drainage is becoming increasingly important at a time when a lot of rain falls in a short period of time. This part of construction is often underestimated, inside a house a rain shower with proper drainage is installed, but rainwater drainage is sometimes forgotten." Van den Berg likes to think about rainwater drainage, because it is very important that the drainage is placed correctly. "This involves all kinds of factors, such as the amount of water that needs to be processed and the location, north or west facing, whether there is another balcony above the apartment and so on. We know from our experience what will work in what location."

Every balcony a suitable drain

Among other things, Van den Berg has been producing special balcony drains for more than 40 years. "Aluminum balcony drains are the ideal sinks for galleries and terraces in high-rise buildings to drain rainwater. There are manholes with a so-called transit grate and manholes with a flat hole grate (for the top floor)." In some cases, however, it is also possible to apply an outside shower drain. "This is nicer in appearance, but it cannot be connected to the balcony from above."
Terrace drains and bucket drains are also part of the company's product range. "We now also make these out of recycled material, in the so-called Zero version," he says.

These bucket manholes, with bottom or side outlet have a stainless steel grate. "The use of the recycled material does not affect the quality in any way. Thus, bondability is guaranteed, as is impact resistance. The only change is the color; 100% recycled material is only available in the color black." The intention is to provide more products with a sustainable alternative in the future.

Dutch quality

Customization is also possible at Van den Berg. "For example, manholes with a particular grate design, or a particular color, shower gutters with different drains ... it's all possible." This is facilitated by the fact that Van de Berg deliberately produces its items only in the Netherlands. "We do not compromise on quality, it just has to be really good. By producing in the Netherlands, we guarantee that our products are solid, reliable and quickly available."
