The fair is spacious.

As a leading platform for material innovations for the spatial realm, MaterialDistrict is dedicated to providing visitors with the opportunity to see and touch new materials and products, meet suppliers and learn more about the latest material developments. The event is a must for architects and interior designers looking for new material solutions for their projects. "With the need for sustainable & biobased building increasingly permeating all levels of society and politics, we are excited to show the (construction) industry during our event what is already possible in this field today," said Jeroen van Oostveen, event organizer. "Our goal is to create more awareness about the importance of using sustainable & bio-based materials in the built environment and to inspire architects, designers and builders to make more sustainable choices."

Material exposition

With the demand for bio-based and innovative materials in the built environment growing rapidly, the industry is seeing a wave of new and exciting materials that offer unique properties and design opportunities. With 250 material samples on display, this exhibition provides an overview of the latest sustainable materials currently available on the market. The exhibition showcases a range of materials, including lightweight sheet material made from popcorn, wall panels made from leftover material from wine production, a leather alternative made from cacti and tiles made from construction debris from the London Underground.

At the booths plenty of opportunities for good conversation.

Lecture Program

MaterialDistrict Utrecht is known for its high-profile lecture program, in which renowned (inter)national architects, scientists, designers and other experts share the latest developments in the field of materials with the audience. This year there will again be two simultaneous theater programs in which a lineup of 50 speakers will share their knowledge and experience with visitors.

The lecture program is made possible thanks in part to collaboration with a number of leading organizations including: PEFC Netherlands, Biobased Creations, Fibershed, BNI, Biophilic Design Platform and Matter Technologies.

Exhibitors

The event offers visitors the outstanding opportunity to find the right manufacturers for their next projects, with exhibitors showcasing a range of innovative materials that have the potential to revolutionize the way we design and build. From sustainable and biodegradable materials to high-tech materials that can adapt to their environment, there is something for everyone this year.

This year, more exhibitors than ever are showcasing (material) innovations within the themes of Circularity, Wellbeing and Energy Transition, a direct result of the MaterialDistrict Innovation Fund established by MaterialDistrict in 2019. Startups and designers can receive grants from the fund on their exhibition participation. An independent advisory committee - including Leonne Cuppen, who is a curator at MaterialDistrict Utrecht - plays an important role in scouting startups and assessing grant applications.

Some of this year's exhibitors include Huis Veendam, Interface, Planq, Sustaign, The Good Plastic Company, Plexwood, Nature@home, Circuform, Arpa, Wasteboard and many others.
