Museum Youseum lets selfie lovers shine in their own social media experience:

In a former office building on the Amstel River in Amsterdam, the interactive museum Youseum has been created, where the visitor is the art object himself during a one-and-a-half-hour tour. Here you can take the most beautiful and bold selfies in a special, colorful ambiance, and then share them on your own Facebook or Instagram account.

The fifteen composite rooms with about 25 interactive art and light installations each have their own theme. For example, you can shine in the largest infinity room in the Netherlands and feel rich in The Money Room, swimming among piles of money from The International Bank of You. Rockfon acoustic systems, in the new colors of the Rockfon Color-all range, are used in the different themed rooms. This gave each room its own unique look.

The interactive museum is a concept by Koen Derks and Joep Heusschen and opened its doors in 2019. A year later, they enlisted the help of Rockfon to further improve the acoustics and aesthetics of the themed rooms using acoustic wall and ceiling panels. "Rockfon adds a deeper layer to the Youseum through the way visitors experience these spaces," says Heusschen. "The experience of color in the rooms becomes more intense, thanks to the sophisticated acoustic experience. The optimal acoustics also create a pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere. Disturbing noise factors fall away, allowing you to properly absorb everything in the room. What is also special about the solutions is that they completely blend into the colorful ambience of the rooms."

Acoustics determine the experience

In the various themed rooms, the atmosphere and identity of the space depend heavily on light, color and acoustics. Sven van Ool, UX Designer at Rockfon, explains that in addition to color, acoustics also determine the experience of a social media experience. "Acoustic wall and ceiling panels from Rockfon, such as Rockfon Universal™ Baffles and Rockfon Eclipse™, were used in the different rooms of the Youseum. These panels feature the latest colors from the Rockfon Color-all range, launched in February. The new colors from this updated color range, such as Storm, Coral, Sage and Eucalyptus give each themed space a unique look of its own, without color concessions."

Extreme reverberation is overcome

The new color range was created in collaboration with external color experts, he says. "For the blue ceilings in the Boat Room, which are finished in Color-all color Azure, a matching matte suspension system was also developed to achieve as much of a monolithic look as possible. This new matte suspension system is now also available as standard in all colors of the new color range. In the museum entrance, the new Rockfon Eclipse™ islands hang from the ceiling. These take the form of mirrored, circular islands with a flip-flop effect. The color changes as you walk past them."

Van Ool explains that this innovative system is still under development and is hanging as a pilot in the Youseum. "In the museum, the color experience has a purely aesthetic purpose. In addition, the acoustic properties of Rockfon stone wool products ensure that the high noise levels in the rooms are absorbed."

Some rooms in the Youseum had extreme reverberation, which has now been solved with Rockfon acoustic products. "That's actually true," Heusschen concurs. "In the Miami Room, for example, hip-hop music is always on. Without the acoustic wall and ceiling systems, the atmosphere there was extremely unpleasant. It was also really unbearable in some other rooms. So we are extremely happy with Rockfon's acoustic solutions."
