"To monuments belongs a linseed oil paint that has proven itself for hundreds of years as a protector of wood," believes general manager Toon van Westerhoven. "But also a natural, sustainable and traditional mineral silicate paint as protector of facades. With our new, mineral SKYN wall paints, we are fulfilling this perfectly as well."
At the base of mineral wall paints are inorganic raw materials such as silica (sand) and potassium carbonate, which are melted under high temperature to form water-glass gel.
"Dissolving this water glass gel in water creates a stable product, potash glass (silicate), which guarantees an unbreakable bond with any mineral substrate," Van Westerhoven said.
"Not only brick or sand-lime brick masonry, but also concrete, natural stone or plaster. The paint system glues itself to the mineral substrate, ensuring good adhesion and a long lifespan. The facades retain their aesthetic value for a long time. Moreover, our SKYN wall paints guarantee excellent UV resistance and light and color fastness for at least 20 years, which extends the maintenance cycle considerably.
SKYN mineral wall paints are available in an extensive color palette. "To determine the right color for each project, we do extensive color and substrate research," says Van Westerhoven. "We also work together with Monumentenzorg and other subject specialists, including a German paint factory with more than 200 years of knowledge and experience in mineral wall paints. All of our wall paints are mixed to exact specifications by our colorists, using sec inorganic dyes (pigments)."
SKYN wall paints were officially introduced to the market on March 21. Meanwhile, the first projects have been carried out. "Besides several residential houses in the region, we have supplied our SKYN wall paints to the oldest estate in the Netherlands: estate Bingerden," Van Westerhoven says. "Here the wall paints have been used for the interior walls. Indeed, in addition to exterior walls, our mineral wall paints also lend themselves perfectly to interior walls. For example, the mineral paints are completely vapor permeable, so the application has no effect whatsoever on the moisture management of the substrate."
