Architect@Work this fall was all about "Healthy Materials," a theme that has long since ceased to be special to Rigo Paint Factory.
Han Dorenbos is technical advisor for flooring products. He explains: "Sustainability is in the genes of Rigo Paint Factory. It is not something to get ahead of yourself. It's just one of the many considerations we factor into our decisions every day. If it benefits the product, we always choose the most sustainable materials. Recently, for example, with the introduction of our updated STEP Parquet lacquer. It is based on a bio-based binder, the 2K version has an open time of 72 hours and a hardener that is free of isocyanate. We have been doing this since the 1970s as a pioneer in developing water-based lacquers."
Since 1982, the master oil makers at RIGO Verffabriek have been making ROYL floor oils from 100% vegetable oil. This oil is 100% solvent-free and so strong that one treatment is sufficient. ROYL penetrates deep ín the pores of the wood and therefore protects the wood from water and dirt for a long time from the inside out. "The linseed oil we use is partly sourced from our own flax fields and processed by Dutch mills."
During the event, RIGO focused on the new color oil Original Oak. "That name was not chosen by chance and refers with a nod to our invisible lacquer SKYLT Original. That retains the untreated look of oak. We also approach this with this impregnating color oil C30. Thus, this has become a pure product that fits perfectly with sustainable construction."
As with RIGO's other color oils, you can use Original Oak both left and right, according to Dorenbos. "Let me explain: if you go left, you use ROYL oil: pure oil that colors and protects in ;one coat. Apply, buff in and rub dry, done. Turn right and use SKYLT Overcoatable Color Oil. Here the oil is the primer under a paint system. The combination of overpaintable color oil and SKYLT lacquer creates the look of an oil floor, but with the protection and ease of maintenance of two coats of lacquer."
RIGO sought contact with visitors at Architect@work and challenged them to sniff the products. "Here we told our story of SKYLT, STEP, ROYL and left - or right. Those words contain our best-known products, and the way you can use them. With these, we provide today's parquet and interior designer with products and application methods that fulfill most needs in a pure form. In this way, our range came together nicely with the theme of the fair."
