Jewelry for a door is also minimal....

Red Dot Design Award for door handle line

Design studio Grand&Johnson designed a door handle line to make a statement with. Door handle Shiraat is the result of a search for minimalism and simplicity. Perfectly fitting the studio's style, in which everything is designed with pure attention and attention to detail. Intersteel, supplier of door hardware, took care of the technical implementation of the door handle.

The great collaboration between Grand&Johnson and Intersteel resulted in these companies winning the 2022 Red Dot Design Award for this stylish "jewel for a door. The story begins, of course, with the design. Grand&Johnson took on the challenge of making a door handle an eye-catcher and a design object. The central question was "what does minimal mean? What happens when you leave out everything unnecessary, what does the anatomy of the minimum look like? The challenge of this search lay in finding the purest form of a door handle, which at the same time had to be a jewel for a door and thus in the interior.

Slim design

The designers arrived at an exclusive, slimly designed door handle, with a length of no less than 250 mm. This differs significantly from the standard length of a door handle, which is usually 125 mm. The design features geometric shapes that are harmoniously connected.

The door handle is made of stainless steel and is available in four different finishes: brushed stainless steel, matte brass PVD, matte black PVD and matte copper PVD. Matching accessories, such as a keyhole rosette, a profile cylinder hole or a toilet/bathroom lock are also available.

New spring mechanism

Due to the length of the door handle, the spring in the rosette is more heavily loaded than with shorter door handles. A spring ensures that the handle springs back to its horizontal position after use. Especially for this Shiraat door handle, Intersteel has developed a new spring mechanism based on tension springs, which can handle a heavier load.

Successful cooperation

Intersteel and Grand&Johnson developed this door handle in close collaboration. "For a perfect design, in addition to a good dose of creativity and technical know-how, a good interplay of all parties is essential. Of this, door handle Shiraat is a good example," said Bertel Grote, owner of Grand&Johnson. That the collaboration is successful is evidenced by the fact that the design has now been awarded the Red Dot Product Design Award 2022, a prize that only products with 'outstanding design' are awarded.
