A thoroughly Belgian family business, specializing in quality roller shutters, blinds and products for the outdoors, with a focus on innovative products, well-being for its own employees and a sustainable production process: that is the definition of Wilms of Meerhout. With the launch of ShutterX® Wilms is the only manufacturer in the Benelux to offer a roller shutter that is guaranteed airtight. There is no more perforation of the inner wall and the roller shutter is invisible from the outside. This airtight roller shutter is appreciated by both the processor and the end customer.
With traditional built-in roller shutters and surface-mounted roller shutters, you could never get good results in a blower door test until now. After all, a home could not be airtight with these products. Wilms developed with ShutterX® the solution: an innovative roller shutter that is guaranteed airtight. This roller shutter, invisibly integrated into the facade, is concealed airtight in the cavity wall, without touching and perforating the interior wall.
The ShutterX® shutter is concealed airtight in the cavity wall without touching and perforating the interior wall.
The insulation that is removed from the cavity for this purpose gives way to a composite reinforcement profile that is integrated into the interior wall at the level of the box and takes over and even improves the insulation value of the missing cavity wall insulation. In addition, the window can be fixed to the interior wall from the top. A window with ShutterX® is finished all around in the daylight opening with insulating construction boards, as a barrier between the cold outside and warm inside air. To avoid cold window sills in winter, a composite window support profile is used, on which both the interior and exterior window sills rest.
The development of the ShutterX® was done entirely in-house, including the production of the prototypes'. Meanwhile, we have already realized many projects and the original design has been further refined," says Erik Wilms, CEO of Wilms. "This roller shutter has grown into a total solution.
All possible insulation, moisture and condensation problems are addressed in an integrated system. Not unimportant: the visual aspect has also been considered. For example, the entire product, including guides and bottom lath, is concealed in the cavity wall. You see nothing of it when the roller shutter is open."
Despite a stagnation in the new construction market, dozens of builders are still looking for shutters for their project every day. They come to Wilms because ShutterX® today is the only option on the market to install shutters in a new construction and meet all of today's stringent building requirements with passive construction in mind. "We find that a lot of new builders and remodelers are looking for ways to rack up S-points. Until recently, shutters were invariably a negative factor and were even discouraged by architects. Thanks to ShutterX® we can offer them a solution," concludes Erik Wilms. "Through an innovative and patented system, we manage not only to close the traditional thermal bridge, but also to turn the building node into an insulation advantage. An independent study firm determined that ShutterX® lowers the S-level of a home by as much as three points while also achieving significant savings on energy bills."
