Solution thermal bridge concrete consoles

When energy renovating a condo, it is important to get it right the first time. When it is expected that the residents will use the apartment for at least another 25 years, renovation at new construction level is the standard. Beers Bouwproducten has a solution for thermal bridge problems. For this purpose, the company produces insulated gallery and balcony console cladding elements.

Many gallery apartments built in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s have concrete balcony and gallery consoles that create a thermal bridge in the home. This causes unnecessary heat to leak onto the facade, which does not benefit comfort (including mold) and energy consumption. To eliminate this thermal bridge, Beers Bouwproducten has developed a cap that can be placed around these consoles very easily.

"The possibilities of this product are not yet widely known," says owner Marc Beers. "We think we can offer a perfect prefabricated solution for insulating consoles. Especially if new, facade-filling elements are installed, a lot is possible. Point of attention then is that the cladding elements do not sit in front of the window frames. The existing consoles are naturally widened by the insulated elements and, of course, it is not so nice if then part of the window frame disappears."

Diversity

Beers Bouwproducten from Medemblik offers a complete range of polyester building products for the outside of a structure: gutters, door canopies, dormers, fascia, wind springs, thermal bridge cladding elements, chimney casings, window shutters and even complete facade elements. Says Beers, "We provide larger projects with our products, in some cases just the delivery, but also often the assembly."

Many advantages of plastic

With passion, he advocates the use of plastic composites. "We do our best to raise awareness of these products. This is also succeeding! More and more contractors and architects are seeing the advantages of this material." According to Beers, the properties of plastic are favorable compared to aluminum and concrete, for example. "Plastic is light, strong, gives great design freedom and is weather resistant. In addition, it is quick to process and durable. Painting is not necessary."

Renovation in Rotterdam

Currently, Beers Bouwproducten in Rotterdam is collaborating on the Noordwest and Corridor flats in Rotterdam IJsselmonde. "For contractor Vorm, we are part of this renovation project. From top to bottom, they have removed all the facades here. The concrete skeleton will be fitted with well-insulating and soundproof walls and window frames as well as our elements for the protruding consoles."

The result is homes that are sustainable and gas-free after renovation. "Exterior wall insulation is a business-smart solution, as higher RC values can be achieved with minimal additional cost."
