Window frames with proven lowest environmental impact

Kömmerling Netherlands is strengthening its leadership role in sustainability and circularity with the introduction of new, improved life cycle assessments (LCAs) for Kömmerling K-VISION products. The LCAs were recently included in the National Environmental Database (NMD) and offer the most competitive environmental cost indicator (EQI) on the market.

Advances in sustainability

Kömmerling Netherlands has always had a leading role in the development of sustainable and circular products. As a result, it appeared in 2022, as the first plastic system house, with category 1 entries in the National Environmental Database. “Since then, there has been a lot of tightening up in both European and national regulations for the preparation and processing of LCAs,” knows Jelmer Bijlsma, Manager Sustainability & Innovation. “For example, to ensure a level playing field between different frame materials and systems. Kömmerling calculated these new guidelines - along with all the developments of recent years. The result are new LCAs in which the environmental impact of K-VISION products is even more transparent.”

Reliable comparisons

The National Environmental Database was set up independently by the NMD Foundation to enable the best choice in sustainable building products. The new LCAs of Kömmerling K-VISION Trend and Classic, with variants made of steel and a plastic EcoForce reinforcement, have been available in the NMD since May 7, 2025. “The latest analyses are more complete than ever and based on practical situations, where we have followed the new European and national and guidelines,” said Bijlsma. “This ensures fair and reliable comparisons between different materials.” Once again, this makes Kömmerling Netherlands the first system house with a set of Category 1 LCAs that are completely prepared according to the current rules of the game.

Excellent environmental cost indicators

Thanks to years of efforts in areas such as recycling, reuse, energy conservation and transportation, the new LCAs of Kömmerling K-VISION products score better than competing materials. “Our K-VISION frames with steel have an MKI of €1.05 to €2.04/m2, while the EcoForce reinforcement made of recycled plastic offers an MKI of up to €0.58/m2,” says Bijlsma. “No other material can match that.”

Kömmerling Netherlands is proud of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and circularity, says Bijlsma. “The new LCAs for the K-VISION products are an important step forward in our mission to minimize the environmental impact of our products while providing the highest quality.

These analyses are a testament to our commitment to innovation and environmental awareness.”
