Glass facade module and folding wall based on natural materials

For over four decades, Solarlux has been the specialist in the field of flexible glass facade solutions that guarantee generous openings, maximum transparency and a smooth transition between inside and outside. Started in 1983 with glass folding and sliding walls, the product range now includes conservatories, garden rooms and balcony glazing that are continuously innovated and tested, with an eye for technical details, durability, comfort and design. Solarlux's efforts in recent years have resulted in numerous innovative and distinctive products, of which the Woodline façade module and Woodline folding wall are fine examples.

Building with wood

Energy-saving, energy-efficient and sustainable building is all the rage these days. "Building with wood fits this ideally," according to Stefan Mäkel, Architectural Consultant at Solarlux Nederland BV. "Wood is renewable, retains CO2 and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. In the interior, wood also creates a warm atmosphere. Our Woodline facade element goes along with this and brings sustainability, comfort and design together in a unique way."

Glass parapet and folding wall in one

The Woodline facade element concerns a flexible, modular and thermally insulated facade system in wood, whose glass parapet and folding wall are integrated into one slim element, Mäkel says. "The Woodline facade module is fully custom assembled in the factory, after which the prefabricated element can be built into the facade as a single unit. Woodline is ideally suited for shielding loggias and balconies, but can also be used as a modular facade element in the exterior facade. Triple glazing makes optimum Uw values of 1.1 W/m2K achievable, making the façade module also suitable for BREEAM and LEED projects."

Red Grandis Eucalyptus wood

The profiles of the Woodline facade module consist of laminated quality wood, with a special corner joint of the wings providing additional stability. "Customers can choose, for example, from Spruce, Pine, Pine, Oak or Meranti," says Mäkel. "We have also recently added Red Grandis to our product range. Red Grandis is the brand name of Eucalyptus wood from northern Uruguay. What is unique about this tree is that it is ready to harvest after only 24 years, whereas oak, for example, takes up to a hundred years. So Red Grandis grows considerably faster, but is at least as durable and has excellent insulation value.
In addition, the wood has a very nice smooth finish. Pinholes and cross grain are not an issue, which makes the wood very suitable for facade joinery."

FSC® or PEFC™ certified

All woods processed at Solarlux have FSC® or PEFC™ certification and come from sustainable forest management. As desired, the wood can be coated with stain, a manually oiled surface or a coat of paint in virtually any color. "The use of a water-based paint - combined with an energy-saving production with water and heat recovery - guarantees even more sustainability and a conscious handling of our earth."

Woodline Folding Wall

Following the Woodline façade element, Solarlux also offers a separate Woodline folding wall, which, according to Mäkel, is the sustainable alternative to sliding or French doors. The folding wall is available in the same wood species as the façade module and is distinguished by a narrow profile. "Where a 118 mm wide sash is common, our Woodline folding wall has a view width of only 70 mm of the sash profile. This results in slim sash transitions of only 143 mm."

The Woodline folding wall has a thermal transmittance of Uw = ≥0.97 W/m2K. "In addition, we comply with a sound resistance class of up to Rw = 42 dB, a driving rain density according to DIN EN 12208 of 7A and a burglar resistance according to DIN EN 1627*1630 of RC2/RC2N. The fact that the guidance at the top and bottom is made of aluminum ensures optimum functionality and user-friendliness."

Easy clean

Both the Woodline facade module and Woodline folding wall feature easy clean comfort cleaning fittings, making the glazing easy to clean from both sides. This eliminates the need for special window cleaning
installations required.
