From March 4 to 6, 2026, MaterialDistrict Utrecht returns to the Werkspoor Cathedral. During this nineteenth edition, the platform introduces the new program NextNow, which focuses on material innovation for issues such as bio-based and circular building, energy transition, climate adaptation and healthy indoor spaces. The fair offers designers, architects, building professionals and policy makers an up-to-date and convenient overview of the solutions available today for tomorrow's projects.

In addition to familiar participants, MaterialDistrict Utrecht welcomes a remarkably strong batch of new exhibitors this year. Dutch company AcoustIQ shows how sustainable acoustic spray finishes contribute to both aesthetics and sound comfort in public and commercial spaces. From The Hague, Atelier Dasha Tsapenko brings biodesign to the exhibition floor, with materials and objects that arise from collaboration between humans, fungus and plants.

The wood sector is strongly represented this year. Norway's FINTI shows how innovative wood products contribute to a lower carbon footprint, while Finland's Koskisen introduces a new generation of thin veneer and panel materials. International Kronospan is also present with advanced, sustainable panels for the interior and construction industries.
There are several firsts for professionals working with biobased materials. Dutch company Reduco is presenting 100% circular board materials, produced from wood that would otherwise go to waste. SAM Panels, also Dutch, is showing circular panels and acoustic solutions based on local residual streams - relevant for both building professionals and interior designers.

Also in 2026, the Young Talent program is an important part of the fair. This year, curator Leonne Cuppen selected sixteen promising designers who will present innovative material experiments, biobased applications and innovative manufacturing processes. The Young Talents will also have their own stage in the Young Talent Theater, where they will explain their research, vision and material developments to designers, policy makers and other professionals in the field.
The MaterialDistrict Innovation Fund is once again offering space to start-ups focused on sustainable, circular and future-oriented material innovation. This support allows innovative young companies to participate in the fair and present their work to architects, designers, R&D teams and clients. The program strengthens MaterialDistrict's position as a platform for innovation and helps new players grow into the market.
Via special NextNow routes through the exhibition floor, visitors will discover at a glance which materials are directly applicable within themes such as bio-based building, energy transition, circularity and healthy interior spaces. The program provides concrete tools for designers as well as municipalities, housing corporations and project developers working on urgent spatial tasks.

As every year, the materials exhibition is the beating heart of the fair. Visitors can see and experience more than 250 innovative samples, ranging from bio-based board materials and acoustic solutions to new wood products and experimental bio-materials. This tangible experience supports professionals in making material choices for renovation, new construction and interior design projects.
MaterialDistrict Utrecht 2026 will take place March 4-6 at the Werkspoor Cathedral in Utrecht. With 150 exhibitors, the new NextNow program and a wide range of activities, the fair offers a complete overview of material innovations for architecture, interior design, construction and policy.
