Vacuum fills vacuum

"Alert Insulation has specialized in customized insulation solutions and advice for more than 40 years," explains Plant Manager Rob de Nijs. "Unfortunately, in prefab construction in the Netherlands, connections are often not delivered airtight or fire-resistant well enough. We help contractors prevent this by thinking about the details."

Truly airtight with Airtight

Those details include making a building really airtight and fireproof. Rob de Nijs. "Rc values are increasingly important. That's why building components must fit together perfectly. We have developed a number of patented products for this purpose. With Airtight, both an airtight and a thermal seal are realized between building components in a single operation. Salesman Michel Stok adds, that in the form of the Firetight the product is also fire-resistant for three hours.

Airtight consists of a strip of glass wool that we put in a plastic casing. Then all the air is sucked out and a very thin strip remains. You place this between various elements and then cut open the packaging. The glass wool then fills the space completely." 

According to Alert Insulation, the product is higher quality and more durable than other solutions such as the usual PUR. "In addition, it is much faster to process."

Firetight consists of a vacuumed strip of rock wool and intumescent tape. After placing and puncturing the vacuum film, the Firetight expands completely, with the present intumescent tape sealing even the small irregularities in case of fire.

The Firetight solution is intended for unventilated facades, but Alert Insulation also has a solution for ventilated facades. Michel Stok: "Firetight-Fuse works differently than Firetight. It is made for facades that have to be ventilated. However, during a fire the cavity has to be completely closed. This is what Firetight-Fuse does, preventing fire spread."

Finally, Alert has the Airtigth-Airtape and the Firetight-Firetape. These are insulation strips up to six meters and long and six inches wide and thick. "These are reduced by vacuum to less than one centimeter in thickness. Therefore, they fit into small spaces. Thanks to double-sided tape, it stays in place. After puncturing, this fills the space completely permanently airtight."
