When craftsmanship and a love of materials come together, doors are created that are instantly eye-catching and enduringly fascinating. The collaboration of De Rooy Steel Doors and Wonderwall Studios is the perfect example. What began with a shared passion and several successful projects grew into a lasting collaboration. The result is an exclusive collection of steel doors with a recycled wooden inlay: a refined fusion of steel and wood, designed with an eye for detail and character.
Anyone who chooses interior steel doors from De Rooy Steel Doors chooses characterful door designs, exclusive coatings as well as luxury door fillings in, for example, glass, leather, wallpaper and wood. But also for good and close collaborations. Both with interior builders, (interior) architects and (material) manufacturers, so that every creative idea can be converted into an exclusive design. “Non-standard is our standard and every door that leaves our workshop is unique,” Herriët Willemsen-De Rooy emphasizes. “This also applies to the collection we designed together with Wonderwall Studios.”

The seed for this collection was planted in the many projects De Rooy Steel Doors and Wonderwall Studios realize together. “A collaboration that resulted last year in the development of a first joint collection,” said Willemsen-De Rooy. “This collection was presented for the first time during The Art of Living fair, at the booth of The One by Five. An inspiring environment where high-end interior design, architecture and craftsmanship came together. It turned out to be the perfect stage for our innovative collection. The reactions confirmed what we already knew: the combination of aged wood and modern steel appeals to the imagination. Not for nothing have we already had the pleasure of completing many projects together.”
In total, the first collection includes five door models. From dense variants filled entirely with wood to partially transparent variants combining steel, wood and glass. “Here architects and end customers have a choice of selected wood and steel colors,” Willemsen-De Rooy says. “The wooden insert panels are fully customized and are inspired by recognizable Wonderwall Studios’ designs. For example, Ridge impresses with a powerful, diagonal pattern and layered depth, while Railings plays with straight lines, squares and rectangles. Velvet adds a tactile experience, thanks to the blocks that refract light in a sophisticated way. But other patterns are also possible. After all, Wonderwall Studios’ panels can be incorporated into any of De Rooy Steel Doors” doors."
Together, Wonderwall Studios and De Rooy Steel Doors chose two woods with distinct character: swamp oak and walnut. “Bog oak is a wood species with a story. It is oak that has been under the peat for hundreds of years, where the natural tannins and minerals from the peat create deep tones in black, gray and dark brown. The result is an almost graphic play of colors, perfectly balanced with the cool character of steel.” Walnut, on the other hand, is known for its rich hues and warm glow. “Wonderwall Studios uses walnut wood in which light and dark tones alternate. Here, the vibrant grain pattern creates an elegant, natural look - perfectly balanced with the clean lines of steel.”
