April 2026 - Balcoon - Scapes by Patricia Urquiola presents bathroom design as spatial experienceEmbracing installation “Balcoon - Scapes” at the Gran Meliá Palazzo CordusioExclusive cocktail event with around 450 invited guests as a kickoffIncludes current bathroom trends and international design collaborationsLimited Balcoonstool as a sculptural collector's objectBrand presence in the city via branded streetcar and shuttle busDuring Milan Design Week 2026, Duravit presented itself with a multifaceted brand experience. The centerpiece was the installation “Balcoon - Scapes” by Patricia Urquiola, which translated core elements of the Balcoon bathroom collection into an atmospheric, sculptural room composition. In addition, Duravit displayed selected novelties and iconic series in its own showroom, while a strategically placed presence in the city reinforced the brand's visibility throughout the week.

With “Balcoon - Scapes,” Patricia Urquiola continued her collaboration with Duravit, translating the formal language of the Balcoon series into a spatial staging. The installation abstracts round and square basic shapes, layered materials and warm color tones into a structured field of objects. Sinks and toilets are detached from their functional roles and presented as totemic elements. A toilet with a fur-like texture and bidets with strikingly textured concrete layers deliberately create alienating accents and give the installation a playful character.
Patricia Urquiola explains: “We wanted to show that even elements as functional as a sink or a bidet can have their own expressive power. We worked on this installation for more than a year. The result is a small ‘teatrino’ - a field of totems and objects that dialogue with each other and open up new perspectives on the bathroom as a designed living space.”
The installation was presented at the Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio and was accessible to the many visitors to Milan Design Week throughout the week.

To open design week, Duravit invited around 450 guests to an exclusive cocktail event on the rooftop of the Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio. Invited guests - including business partners from architecture and design, friends of the brand and international VIPs such as Kelly Rutherford and Angela Missoni - experienced the installation in an atmospheric evening setting. Patricia Urquiola and Lüder Fromm, CMO of Duravit, welcomed guests and gave insights into the collaboration and design concept behind Balcoon - Scapes.
A stool developed by Patricia Urquiola, which translates the formal language of the Balcoon series into an autonomous sculptural piece of furniture, was part of the installation. The edition consists of 26 numbered copies - a reference to the year 2026 - and was produced at the Duravit factory in the Black Forest. In Milan, the stool was shown publicly for the first time as part of the overall staging.

Parallel to the installation, Duravit opened its showroom in Milan for visitors to design week, which was intensively used. Shown were novelties from the Balcoon series 2026, iconic bathroom lines such as ME by Starck and Collection One, new sink solutions such as Ocavo by Christian Werner and technological highlights such as the SensoWash shower toilets. The presentation offered a compact overview of the design and technological diversity of the range and complemented the installation with concrete product applications.

Duravit also set visible accents in public spaces. A “Duravit streetcar” ran through the city throughout the week, while a shuttle bus connected the Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio locations and the Duravit showroom. These measures reinforced the brand presence and provided additional visibility during design week.
