The application of Concrete Ciré is hugely popular in homes, commercial buildings, hotels, restaurants and retail properties. Not only because of the unique character and luxurious appearance of the material, but also because of its versatility.
This is because cementitious stucco is durable, waterproof, hard-wearing, seamless and adheres to virtually any surface. From wood, stone and concrete to drywall, ceramic tile, plastics and glass. Moreover, the material can be applied to any location: from floors to ceilings, walls, stairs and furniture, and from living and work spaces to kitchens and bathrooms. Even an application in the shower is no problem at all, says Patrick Vos, director of Beton Aparte International, the official importer and distributor of Beton Ciré in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
Beton Ciré is a waterproof concrete stucco that has been used in bathrooms in France for more than 25 years, Vos says. "This Beton Ciré, rubbed concrete in French, used to be kept waterproof with wax or oil. Today, however, we have permanent systems that remain waterproof, easy to clean and very hygienic. In fact, because of the seamless application, dirt, mold and bacteria are not an issue."
In addition to cement, Beton Ciré consists of very finely ground pebbles and sand and special synthetic resin (resin). This synthetic resin makes the product flexible yet hard, allowing it to be applied very thinly (max. 2 mm).
"Because Concrete Ciré is applied by hand, it can be processed in any way desired. It can be roughly placed, sanded and/or polished smooth. In addition, it can be worked with one or more colors."
Using a dye, the product can be supplied in any color, Vos says. "We have 74 standard colors. In addition, we make custom colors for architects and designers, which are not reproduced."
The complete Beton Ciré system from Beton Aparte also includes an impregnating agent for basic protection and adhesion of the sealer, as well as a special 2-component PU Sealer mat for kitchen or bathroom applications.
"In addition to the above products, today we work a lot with geopolymers; a sustainable and green alternative to cement," Vos says. "This binder consists mainly of high-quality secondary minerals, extracted from industrial residues and with a low CO2 footprint and environmental footprint. With this, we match the sustainability ambitions of many customers."
Only minimal raw materials are needed to produce Concrete Ciré, he emphasizes. "Moreover, we deliver the product per square meter, so waste is not an issue. Ordered before noon means delivered tomorrow (Netherlands) or the day after tomorrow (Belgium/Germany)."
In the 200 square meter showroom of Beton Aparte in Baarle Nassau, architects, designers and their customers can see, feel and experience all possible applications, finishes and colors. For example, in a bathroom, kitchen and living room, but also in a special design corner where the creativity of visitors is maximized.
