With a construction industry increasingly committed to sustainability, efficiency and innovative solutions, Knauf offers with AQUAPANEL® a leading product that facilitates and inspires the realization of future-proof designs.
During construction projects, problems are often discovered during the process - such was the case with the construction of apartment complex Karel 2.0 in Amsterdam. The culprit: weight. In the initial design, a facade of precast concrete with a masonry wall was planned, but this turned out to be too heavy. Where normally the design would have to be modified, Knauf's consultants came up with the solution: AQUAPANEL® Cementboard Outdoor.
AQUAPANEL® is the world's premium brand for cement boards in the dry building industry and is synonymous with quality, versatility and durability. With a complete system that combines technological advantages with creative freedom, AQUAPANEL® provides a solid foundation for both functional and aesthetic construction projects.
For the Karel 2.0 project, Knauf came up with an alternative construction: HSB elements topped with AQUAPANEL® Cementboard Outdoor. This lighter construction offered several advantages. Not only was the weight problem solved, but the slimmer facade also provided additional living space - a valuable addition in the inner city of Amsterdam, where people know: every square meter counts. Moreover, the combination of prefabricated HSB elements and in-situ assembled AQUAPANEL® panels allowed construction to be completed faster, without additional costs or delays.
The Knauf AQUAPANEL® system, which consists of cement boards, screws, grout materials and plaster finishes, has proven to be a durable and reliable solution in numerous projects. An essential component of this system are the AQUAPANEL® Cement Boards. These cement-based boards are not only waterproof, moisture-insensitive and mold-resistant, but also non-combustible. But what makes the boards unique is their flexibility - literally. In fact, these boards can be bent to a one-meter radius, offering architects unprecedented design freedom. "You can even bend it to create organic shapes," says Marije Tibbe, AQUAPANEL® project consultant at Knauf.
Thanks to these properties, AQUAPANEL® facilitates faster, safer and more cost-efficient construction projects, without compromising on quality or aesthetics. In addition, Knauf offers expert project advice and support throughout the design and construction process, ensuring that AQUAPANEL® is always used to its full potential.
A new eye-catcher in the streetscape of Amsterdam North is the striking GO Buiksloterham building. The design by Sophie Valla Architects combines work and living spaces and is characterized by a pronounced facade made largely of glass. Behind the green, transparent façade elements, Knauf AQUAPANEL® Cementboards form the waterproof underlay of the façade and provide a solid base that is resistant to moisture, mold and fire. Throughout the project, Knauf supported with detailed advice, focusing on connections at window frames, expansion joints and other façade elements. The choice of AQUAPANEL® assured Sophie Valla Architects of a durable and reliable solution that exactly matches the innovative character of the building.
With AQUAPANEL®, Knauf architects offer a versatile and durable building system that perfectly meets the requirements of modern construction projects without compromising on design. Whether innovative designs like GO Buiksloterham or practical solutions like Karel 2.0,
AQUAPANEL® proves its added value time and again. By combining technological advantages with creative possibilities, Knauf helps architects transform the built environment and create future-proof projects.
In this, Knauf is more than a supplier; they are a partner who supports architects with expert advice and innovative solutions to make their vision a reality. Because with AQUAPANEL® the rule is: bend your slab, not your plans.
