Mechanical and circular fastening system for stone strips

The aesthetic and durable face of modern cladding

"Cladding is not just about technology," says Gerrit Tadema, director and owner of Fassat, firmly. The company specializes in a mechanical and circular fastening system for stone strips, but appearance is not forgotten. "We also want to seduce our customers with design. The facade is fashion and so it's about tastes and styles."

Innovation is in Tadema's blood, he says. "I love bringing really innovative products to market. Two years ago I set my sights on attaching stone strips to facades. Experience has shown that glued systems can become loose, so this is something contractors no longer like to choose. Moreover, gluing is not sustainable, a circular product should be able to be detached and reused."

With this goal in mind, Tadema developed a mechanical and circular fastening system for stone strips. The system consists of a support rail of aluminum or steel, into which a clamping profile is integrated. The stone strip, or tile, has a slot on the back to make it easy to place it on the profile. "We attach the system over the insulation shell and drill through it firmly. This does not create cold bridges or insulation leaks. It also saves material and therefore costs."

Many finishing options

The sustainable fastening system fits right in with the development of circular construction. This is certainly seen by architects, according to Tadema. "We notice that they are very open to new developments in sustainability. In our showroom, our customers can view the system and of course also discover our NoviBrick stone strips, NoviBrick terracotta panels and NoviBrick tiles."

The stone strips are an existing product, available in a wide variety of colors. "In addition to a number of basic ceramic colors, the strips can also be glazed, in which case a layer of glass is placed over the surface, so to speak. This is very popular. Digital engobing is also possible, in which a kind of molten clay paste is sprayed onto the tiles. The possibilities are enormous, starting from 1,500 square meters the architect can also design his or her own stone."

In addition to stone strips, the collection includes Bricktiles, available in 95×300 mm and 65×240 mm sizes, and the 200 mm terracotta panels. They too can be given a surface finish, such as combed, brushed, with rills or shadow joints. Glazing is possible with a glaze made from recycled solar panels for 90%.

Laying floor tiles loose

Tadema is not limited to the facade, by the way; in 2023, Fassat became the exclusive distributor and seller of DryTile Ceramics in the Netherlands. "We had been looking for a way to lay floor tiles loose for some time when we came in contact with a German manufacturer. We are proud to now be able to distribute this system."

The DryTiles system allows floor tiles to be laid loose on a leveled floor. The tiles have a sound-insulating backing of cork and are provided with a flexible cementitious grout. Cutting the grout loose makes it easy to remove and replace a tile.
