Always assured of a good origin
Smart wood for nice places. Carpentier Hardwood Solutions is a close-knit and leading Belgian family company with a passion for wood. Besides a large stock of raw and planed wood, the third generation is firmly committed to the development of innovative and qualitative wood products. Both for inside and outside and from facade, wall and ceiling cladding over shutters, gates and terrace covers to completely finished garden offices, pool houses and even complete house construction. Within the one-stop-woodshop, the focus is firmly on sustainability, innovation, ecology and craftsmanship.
For more than seventy years the Carpentier family has had a heart for wood. A love that is increasingly and intensely shared by architects, interior designers, garden designers and end users, observes Heidi Carpentier. "And that is not surprising, because wood is a beautiful material. Wood is alive. Wood is pure and honest and gives both interior and exterior an authentic, warm and natural look & feel. Not for nothing do we supply more than 20,000 m³ of European hardwood to projects throughout Europe every year. From thermal ash to thermal oak, thermal softwood, thermal bamboo, Accoya, oak and barnwood, assuring designers, processors and end users of good wood from sustainable sources."
Carpentier Hardwood Solutions is one of the first Belgian companies to carry the PEFC and FSC labels and to work exclusively with ecological woods from sustainably managed forests. "These forests are mainly located in Europe, so our ecological footprint also remains as small as possible." Of all the wood species offered by Carpentier, oak is still the most popular. But also the extensive range of thermally treated wood now makes the hearts of architects, interior designers, garden designers and end users beat faster. Thermally treated wood is offered under the brand name HOTwood (Heated Outdoor Timber).
Depending on the type of wood chosen, Carpentier offers various finishing options. From sawing to sawing, drying, heat treating, fine sawing, planing, planing, brushing or CNC machining.
Those who wish can additionally have the wood pre-greened, burned, brushed, stained or oiled.
"A colorless stain or oil fills the pores of the wood, provides optimal protection against contamination and weathering and creates a natural look. Here, however, outdoors aging must be taken into account. If this natural discoloration is not desirable, then an oil with light pigment will help maintain the original wood color. And specific color finishes are also possible. For example, we are currently seeing a high demand for black and gray tones, as well as our Ancient White, Matcha Green, Olive Green, Dusty Rose, Ginger Gold and ochre tones."
If desired, a fire-retardant treatment is also possible, in which the ecological wood is impregnated with fire-retardant under vacuum pressure. "This method is 100% natural and no change in wood color or structure occurs. After treatment, the wood can be processed immediately."
Because Carpentier has all techniques in-house, it can provide customized solutions for each project. Moreover, it can continuously innovate. "Currently, our entire range of closed cladding in HOTwood can be fire-retardant treated to B-s2,d0. And we can also provide professional testing on other types of wood such as oak."
Very popular is also the shou sugi ban technique, an ancient Japanese woodworking technique with fire that permanently protects the wood from fire and gives it a unique black pattern.
For Carpentier, innovation relates not only to the wood itself, but also to its fastening. "Nails and screws are an eyesore for many and distract from the design. Moreover, the risk of damage or unsightly rust spots lurks. Our QuickClip® products overcome these problems and ensure a flawless end result. Whether on facades, ceilings and walls or when covering gates, fences and patio covers."
The QuickClip® products are constructed of high-quality wood and are offered in combination with the unique Grad fastening system, which guarantees a seamless finish. "In combination with our Accoya and HOTwood cladding, the invisible system even provides additional ease of use as well as significant time savings in installation. The wooden boards need only be clicked onto the aluminum substructure, on which the clips are already pre-installed. There are no nails or screws involved."
Of particular note is the circularity of the QuickClip® products. "Processors can easily unclip the wooden profiles and reuse them in another place. That too is sustainability, in our opinion."
In the near future, open QuickClip® profiles will also be available for fire class B, which is unique in the market and offers even more possibilities for architects and designers.
