Shading and daylight control in one unique system: Unique louvers follow the shape of the building

Sunshield's passion is to find the best solution in daylight management, glare prevention and solar heating control for every building and every user. Sunshield's high-quality louvre systems play an essential role in this.

Sunshield is a leading manufacturer of louvre systems for residential and commercial construction. The architectural sunshades with fixed or movable horizontal louvers are used in luxury residential buildings, offices, showrooms and museums, where they provide optimal comfort for working, living and leisure. They also have a positive effect on the energy balance and add an aesthetic element to every building, says Misja van Esch, director of Sunshield Nederland.

"What is special about our louver systems is that they can be placed horizontally, vertically, obliquely or even upside down. The louvers are also available in any desired shape. Last-but-not-least, it is possible to apply a finishing edge around the system, possibly with a brush, so that the louvre systems also have a darkening function. This offers advantages in museums, presentation rooms and sleeping quarters, for example."

Huge design freedom

Among the slat systems, Sunshield distinguishes between the S-system and the even more robust L-system. Suitable slat types are designed for both types, says Van Esch. "The most popular applications are slats on the facade (facade systems) and on the roof (glass roofs). Our facade systems can be integrated into the construction of almost any building using carriers. The complete construction (carriers and clips) is located behind the slats. As a result, architects benefit from enormous design freedom."
As desired, Sunshield can cut the slats straight or at an angle, he says, so that the blinds follow the lines of the building exactly.

Aluminum or wood

In terms of materialization, architects have the choice of aluminum or wooden slats. The aluminum slats are available in all standard RAL colors as well as anodized. And a high-quality wood look is also among the options, says Van Esch. "Special colors and treatments, such as certain textured coatings, are available upon request." The wooden slats can also be treated, he says. "As a basic material, we use Western Red Cedar, which you can also have grayed in a beautiful, natural way."

Nice references

Sunshield's slat systems are used in world-renowned museums. In the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, among others, the systems have been regulating daylight for many years. Recently, the glass roof of the imposing Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen was fitted with a Sunshield louvre system, but Sunshield's architectural louvre systems can also be admired in office complex The Curve Amsterdam and at Intergas in Coevorden.

A very recent project is the office building of Alfa Accountants and Adviseurs in Raamsdonksveer, where the existing blinds had broken down. "The blinds were down 24/7," says Van Esch. "To regain control of daylighting, particularly on the top floor of the building, and to effectively block the heat from the sun at the large glass surfaces, we supplied and installed a completely new system. Chosen was our L-system with 150-E slats (150 mm wide), powder coated in the color RAL 7035 (light gray). The system can be easily opened and closed by remote control. Corner pieces and side covers also provide a high-quality finish."
