Smart building choices for a comfortable and energy-efficient apartment complex

In the Heeswijkse Kampen neighborhood in Cuijk, work is currently underway on the Kralensnoer apartment complex. This project, with 48 social rental apartments for Mooiland housing corporation, was designed by Buro Kade and is being realized by Hendriks Bouw en Ontwikkeling. Aliplast Aluminium Systems is supplying the aluminum window frames, which contribute to the high-quality appearance and sustainability of the complex.

Two identical building blocks make up the complex, which includes a total of 48 social rental apartments. Each apartment is gasless and equipped with an individual heat pump. Like the other buildings in the area, the complex stands on a mound. A green embankment hides the storerooms on the first floor and parking at ground level, ensuring a closed soil balance. In addition, this landscaping makes the building optically
less high.

Cooperation between the various parties was the basis of this project. Buro Kade has been working with Aliplast for some time. This architectural firm also brought Hendriks Bouw en Ontwikkeling into contact with the manufacturer of high-quality aluminum systems. "They were looking for window frames that met the insulation requirements for new construction," says Tony Suijkerbuijk, project consultant at Aliplast. "Our systems make that possible while keeping costs manageable."

Sleek and functional window frames

A simple frame profile was initially drawn for the project, as is often used in commercial construction. "Functionally that suffices fine, but with our profile Star 75 we go just a little bit further. We supply these profiles as standard with concealed drainage," Suijkerbuijk explains. "This means no ugly plastic caps, but a tightly finished exterior appearance."

Although some fire-resistant window frames were initially required, this later proved to be unnecessary. "If required, we could have supplied these as well. We have a classification report that allows us to make different combinations and meet the strict fire-resistant regulations in
Netherlands."

Optimal insulation and durability

In addition to aesthetics and fire resistance, insulation value is also very important. "We can adapt our window frames to the requirements set," says Suijkerbuijk. "With our systems we effortlessly achieve a Uw value of 1.4 W/m²K, and if desired even 0.94 W/m²K." In terms of burglar resistance, the window frames are also optimally tailored to the needs of this project. "For this type of window frames, RC2 was sufficient, but we can even supply RC3."

Color and finish to the details

The chosen window frames have an anthracite gray color (RAL 7016), a popular and timeless choice. "We offered this color as a TC color with a guarantee of up to 25 years," Suijkerbuijk says. "In addition, we supply standard window handles and hinges in the same color, something that always makes architects happy."

For Aliplast, the order is a nice confirmation of the cooperation with Hendriks Bouw en Ontwikkeling and Mooiland. "This is a wonderful project to win," Suijkerbuijk concludes. "It's nice to work with parties that value quality and sustainability." With construction work in full swing, the Kralensnoer apartment complex will be a comfortable and energy-efficient place to live for its new residents in the near future.
