Those who are not looking forward to it may raise their hands now... Good, no hands? Nice! It also makes sense. Because ... everyone is looking forward to it! We are talking about ARCHITECT@WORK. On 14 and 15 September the Ahoy' in Rotterdam will be buzzing with inspiration. Architect Meets Innovations. That's how clear the credo is. We speak to Anne-Laure Van de Ginste, Exhibition Manager for the ARCHITECT@WORK Rotterdam edition. After Brussels in June, it is now Rotterdam's turn. "Not coming is a missed opportunity."
The theme is "Healthy Materials" for this ninth edition in the Maas City. "With an extensive program, we are touching on today's megatrend everywhere. The entire process that a product goes through is covered in all sorts of dimensions. From production to design to recycling. Everything is - rightly - focused on the well-being and preservation of people and the environment. It is the theme that everyone in the field is talking about and wants to do something with."
In terms of pre-attendance, Anne-Laure has nothing to complain about. "In terms of visitor numbers, we expect to get back to the number of the pre-Corona era. People really crave physical meetings. Still, compared to that period, something has changed ARCHITECT
@WORK. Because there is SO much to do, it is not illogical to think that visitors will not be able to attend or visit everything live. Thus, I see this event more as a hybrid dimension, like the seminars being streamed. So, if you can't be there in the room, it's just a matter of turning on your tablet or computer. Moreover, they can also be watched back later, as these inspiring knowledge meetings are also offered on demand."
The seminars will mainly present presentations from architects, says Anne-Laure. "All the experiences, challenges and issues they encountered in their projects will be discussed. So that will provide many moments of learning and inspiration.
Of course, the last part of each seminar is set aside for a stimulating Q & A."
Seminars are organized around the themes of "Building with Wood," "Nature Inclusive Design," "Biobased Building" and "Biophillic Design.
Anne-Laure also touches on fringe events. "These are all obviously linked to the theme. For example, we have the 'Healthy Heroes,' a material exhibition divided into 'Healthy Spaces' and 'Healthy Planet.' There is also the exhibition 'Images by DAPh, where a lot of new work is presented, and of course the 'Project Wall' by world-architects and for architects, who can use it to put themselves in the spotlight. Finally, we always give space to an artist/artist showing their work."
So, in short, there is much appetite and "craving" for the event. "That is not so surprising," Anne-Laure concludes. "People know the good atmosphere and they know that afterwards they will always conclude that they have been well informed as well as inspired. That's exactly why we do it! Not coming is a missed opportunity."
