Innovative clamp frame system for Holiday Inn Express & Suites Deventer

A new hotel by IHG Hotels & Resorts and Cycas Hospitality opened along the A1 motorway in Deventer in mid-December. Holiday Inn Express & Suites Deventer is the first Dutch establishment of Holiday Inn's new Suites concept. The so-called aparthotel offers 83 luxury hotel rooms as well as 16 suites with a kitchen, a seating area and a separate sleeping area for longer stays. Bruil Bouw was responsible for the realization of the hotel, which stands out with its perforated gold-colored panels, powerful black frames and strategically positioned window sections. Underlying these window sections is Primoclad Europe's Castellum aluminum frame system.

The solution for sandwich panel facades

"The Castellum frame system has been developed specifically for use in sandwich panel facades and partition walls, where no rear construction, set frame or flashing finish is required to fit the whole assembly," says Michel Warnaar, director of Primoclad Europe. "This enables significantly faster work. The innovative frame system can very easily be attached in the facade opening of the sandwich facade system." 

A good relation of Primoclad Europe brought the Castellum frame system to the attention of Bruil Bouw. "The contractor then approached us for the hotel project in Deventer, because the architect had chosen sandwich panel facades. In several discussions I further explained the system and the possibilities, after which the architect of Van der Linde Architecten also came to the table. He too was immediately enthusiastic about our system and, on behalf of Bruil Bouw, fine-tuned the building design: how big should the windows be? Which windows should be able to open? And what does this mean for (fall) safety? Where is safety glass required? We also shared our knowledge and expertise in this phase, so that aesthetic wishes and technical requirements came together harmoniously."

Emergency doors and access doors

The Castellum window frame system was manufactured and assembled entirely in-house by Primoclad Europe. A total of 143 window frames in a black-gray color (RAL7021) were installed from an aerial platform in the sandwich panel facades. The building was then fitted with an impressive front facade. "In addition to the Castellum window frames, we also supplied several fire-resistant emergency doors," Warnaar says. "In addition, we supplied and installed the electric access doors (sliding doors). Both inside and outside. Particularly special here is the interior door, which is designed as a corner sliding door."
