Flooring as a design element in its own right

From routing and logos to geometric patterns: innovative flooring application takes interior design to the next level

At Architect@Work Amsterdam, Fabromont is introducing an innovative laying method that brings floor finishes and interior design closer together: Kugelgarn® intarsias. With these, the floor no longer becomes a neutral surface, but a design element in its own right.

"With intarsias, the architect is given complete freedom to bring creative ideas to life. From routing and logos to free forms and geometric patterns," says Yvonne Brok, Market Developer / Sales Manager
Netherlands. "The cut-resistant, non-directional material creates a seamless look with minimal waste. Each design flows together harmoniously, as if laid in one go."

New market, new presentation

Fabromont has been developing floors with Kugelgarn® for more than 60 years, mainly in German-speaking countries. For the past year and a half, the company has also been actively targeting the Netherlands. "For us, this is a challenging market," Brok explains. "The Netherlands is more hip & happening, architects are looking for new ways of presentation. With intarsias we perfectly meet that demand: more color, more freedom, and above all the possibility to make floors really part of the interior concept."

Kugelgarn®'s color range includes more than 100 shades, and customization is possible from a certain number of square meters. This provides a wide palette for shaping creative designs. "Whether it's soft gradients, clear zoning or expressive patterns, anything is feasible," Brok said.

Architects as key role

Architects are the main target audience. "Our products are ideal for public buildings, offices and healthcare environments, where robustness is essential. In the prescriptive market, the architect largely determines the choices. This is why we focus on the design capabilities of Kugelgarn® intarsias with our participation."

At Fabromont's booth, the possibilities are made tangible. Visitors will see how intarsias not only set aesthetic accents, but also offer functional added value: for example, for orientation, routing or zoning of spaces.

Sustainability as a common thread

In addition to design freedom, sustainability plays a central role within Kugelgarn® flooring. The Reval collection is made entirely of 100% ECONYL® regenerated nylon and recycled polyester. With this, Fabromont is taking steps toward a circular reality. "We want to move toward a take-back program where all parts are reused," Brok says. "Technologically there are still challenges, but we have a clear roadmap. Our goal is that recycled fibers can serve as a raw material again after take back."
