'You never get a second chance to make a first impression,' the saying goes. That maxim also holds true when we as travelers enter a hotel for the first time. That first impression determines how we feel afterwards. Plaza Hotel Den Haag, however, knows how the word hospitality is spelled. Those who walk in will feel the ambiance that prevails there fall over them like a warm blanket. The stylish and modern interior was realized by Hardeman maatwerk voor interieurs from Lunteren.
Behind the bar you will find a beverage display case, constructed of glass, with glass shelves.
Gert Bruinekreeft looks back on the hotel project in The Hague with satisfaction. "Meanwhile, we are working on the Plaza Hotel in Bottrop, where we are tackling the interior to achieve the same look," he opens the conversation. "The design comes from the hand of Stan van den Wildenberg, interior architect at Wildenberg interior architecture. He has excellently managed to make the connection between warmth, coziness and hospitality, in an understated style."
Hardeman custom interiors stepped into the Plaza Hotel project in mid-2019. "We started in The Hague. The Plaza Hotel concept has the characteristic of being a so-called compact formula. For example, the reception, bar and breakfast room are positioned close together. The new interior design has therefore taken this into account by still clearly indicating zones in the same style, which have been created through the use of different, but matching materials."
Behind the reception desk we find a dark gray surface, in HPL, with the Plaza Hotel logo on it.
The concept has been thought through in detail: in the hotel we find ceilings with LED light lines, the panels hanging on the wall for decoration have their own light accents in LED, and the reception and bar also have integrated LED light lines.
"So a lot of indirect, atmospheric and functional lighting," Bruinekreeft suggests. "The materials we incorporated are also very tasteful. For example, the wall on which the television hangs is made of concrete-look slabs. The conversion of the reception and bar was realized with white GetaCore from Egger. Very beautiful and high-quality."
In terms of look and feel, it connects with the reception area and bar, which is further emphasized by the presence of room dividers also in oak slats.
The back cabinet of the bar and reception area features vertical, oak slats. Behind the reception area we find a dark gray background, in HPL, with the Plaza Hotel logo on it. "That logo is milled out in gold Dibond," Bruinekreeft adds. "Behind the bar you will find a beverage display case, constructed of glass, with glass shelves. Again, an ideal object in itself to tastefully light on and through with LED."
Plaza Hotel Den Haag clearly shows that it has both feet in the Hague. There are niches in one of the walls, where a total of nine vintage art photographs are displayed, with historical image of The Hague printed on them. "These niches are also lit indirectly with hidden LED light lines," Bruinekreeft outlined. When asked if such art pictures are also being worked on in Bottrop, Bruinekreeft replied in the negative. "The building does not offer the possibilities for that, there are too many windows for that."
The architect has excellently managed to connect warmth, coziness and hospitality in an understated style.
Anyone who joins the breakfast buffet at Plaza Hotel The Hague can count on eating in the same style. "The buffet furniture in the dining room features hard stone countertops, with oak fronts and dark gray sides. In terms of look and feel, it connects with the reception area and bar, which is further emphasized by the presence of room dividers that are also finished in oak slats," Bruinekreeft says in conclusion.
