Functional design and smart technology come together in modern utility building

In commercial construction, it's about more than aesthetics. Durability, reliability and smart technology weigh just as heavily. With the OPALA luminaire, Unlumited Lighting Solutions delivers a product that it claims scores on all these fronts - and more.

"The OPALA is functional pure and simple," says Henk Schaap, Senior Product Manager at Unlumited Lighting Solutions. "It is one of our most widely used fixtures, and that is no coincidence. It combines technical soundness with design freedom." The OPALA is available with accessories for pendant and tracklight mounting, and with a pet-felt lampshade for applications in healthcare environments where ambience and performance are equally important.

Bluetooth Mesh makes a difference

A recent application in a modern apartment complex in Belgium shows where OPALA really excels. "This was a stairwell made entirely of concrete, with lots of stainless steel and little to no reception," says Schaap. "In such conditions, many sensor technologies fall through. But thanks to our Bluetooth Mesh implementation, everything continued to function flawlessly."

The OPALA fixtures communicate with each other via a wireless network and respond to presence thanks to advanced microwave sensors. "Architects often want something beautiful, but the technology has to work. We make sure it works, even in difficult situations. If you hang standard fixtures there, you often get complaints and extra costs. You avoid that with OPALA."

Sustainable building with smart technology

The OPALA supports energy savings without sacrificing comfort. The sensor is programmable and can be linked to twilight switches. That means: lighting when needed, and off when possible - up to 75% energy savings are achievable. In addition, the luminaire is impact resistant (IK10) and moisture resistant (IP44), making it suitable for basements, storerooms and outdoor entrances.

"The OPALA was designed with an eye for detail," says Schaap. "Both in terms of lighting technology and design. It meets all the requirements for visual comfort, with high color rendering and no glare." This also makes the luminaire relevant within BREEAM projects. OPALA scores on energy consumption, lighting control and service life - all criteria that contribute to BREEAM credits in new construction or renovation.

A fixture with vision

The OPALA is adjustable to 3000K or 4000K and available with interchangeable rings in black, white or gold. This allows the fixture to fit within different interiors. "We don't think in products, but in solutions," Schaap concludes. "The OPALA is the best example of that. It is more than a luminaire - it is a smart lighting concept that is future-proof and works in practice." -
