On January 16, the winner of the Trespa Project of the Year election was announced in Castle De Vanenburg in Putten. Bureau Bos, architects, engineers and consultants from Bunschoten-Spakenburg, won the grand prize with the design of Christian Child Center De Ark.
Led by architect Elianne Reijers, the firm designed a building that combines functionality, sustainability and aesthetics. "It's great that our project is so well appreciated," said Reijers. The design offers an inspiring learning environment, combining playful shapes and rounded corners with Trespa® Meteon® Wood facade panels. Reijers emphasizes that the project was technically and financially challenging, but the end result has exceeded all expectations.
Second prize went to Leferink Architects from Oldenzaal for their design of the NX Filtration office and production building in Hengelo. The design is characterized by a balance between transparency and closedness, with large areas of glass at the front and Trespa® Meteon® Natural panels at the rear. Olaf Leferink, project manager: "The cladding plays a major role in the appearance of the building. The fresh white and blue colors refer to the character of the company and give the building an accessible, modern look." He adds that the level of competition was high and the diversity of the nominated projects was exceptional.
Third place went to Studio Anton Surink with the colorful design of the Tulpenark in Amsterdam. The architects created a unique aesthetic with Trespa® Meteon® panels that not only make a visual statement, but also contribute to the sustainability of the waterfront home.
"The choice of material was driven by durability, longevity and colorfastness," says Anton Surink. "The ability to place the panels as tiles gave the building a pixelated effect, crucial to the design." The project illustrates how innovative material applications can contribute to aesthetics and functionality.
During the event, not only prizes were awarded, but also content presentations were made. Ruud Veltenaar, author of "Once Upon A Future" and TED speaker, gave an inspiring keynote on the future and the role of architects in the energy transition. His message: 'Embrace the uncertainty of the future and do what is necessary.' He emphasized that architects can play a key role in sustainable innovation and that it is crucial to be proactive.
Dinner was followed by a panel discussion, presented by Archicomm and moderated by Jerry Helmers. Architect Ronald Surink and Marcel van der Most (Trespa regional manager) discussed current architectural challenges and the impact of AI on the profession. The conclusion: AI will influence the industry, but the personal touch will remain leading. The panel also discussed the ever-changing regulatory environment and how architects can adapt to this
customize.
Jim Wolters, account manager at Trespa, looks back with satisfaction, "We had a good turnout and substantive discussions. The atmosphere was great." He congratulates the winners and all the nominees: "They too deserve recognition for their innovative projects."
The third edition is already scheduled for next year. "We will start monthly from now on with the Project of the Month. After twelve months, all the winners will come together again for a new edition in January. I'm looking forward to it!" Trespa emphasizes that they are proud to contribute to sustainable and innovative architecture. Needless to say, the company is very curious about the inspiring projects of next year.
