Soundblox Carbstone: the Next Gen acoustic building blocks

Soundblox acoustic concrete blocks have been a trusted weapon in the fight against noise pollution for years. These acoustic concrete blocks are the ideal solution for acoustic climate control where important aspects such as acoustics (both sound absorption and sound insulation) and fire resistance can be combined in one structural wall. Now it turns out that Soundblox can also be used as a weapon in the fight against CO2!

Not an unnecessary luxury when you consider that concrete is responsible for 10% of the total CO2 emissions worldwide! By using a new technology, Soundblox actively contributes to the climate transition in which 'cement-free' production will eventually become the norm. And that without making concessions to the aesthetic design of a room. It seems too good to be true...

Robust and decorative

In the reception hall of the exclusive Résidence Couchirard apartment complex in Lausanne, Switzerland, Soundblox combines a positive reception with pleasant room acoustics, with these acoustic building blocks providing a decorative addition to the interior that is in complete harmony with the exclusive look of the building.

Soundblox acoustic concrete blocks, because of their robustness and "ball resistance," have also been used for years in rooms with high walls and ceilings such as sports and gymnasiums but also, for example, in a reception area, school classroom, corridor and auditorium, house of worship, theaters, library, factory, facade, office, conference room, hangars, etc. In addition, they are used in outdoor applications such as along highways, stations and under overpasses. They have also been used more frequently in nuclear power plants in the past.

Particularly in areas where not only room acoustics pose an additional challenge but also, due to high humidity levels or other extreme conditions, special requirements are placed on the materials, Soundblox can be the solution for acoustic climate control, such as in swimming pools and factories, for example.

Fully circular

So now Soundblox can also be produced in a new, carbonized variant, where they still have the advantages of concrete and no longer the ecological disadvantages. Unlike traditional concrete blocks, however, these blocks are manufactured with CO2, which is specially extracted from the air and used in production.

So these blocks absorb not only sound but also CO2, thus also intrinsically contributing to a better, healthier and greener world. In addition, after installation (in the open air) they continue to absorb CO2 and become harder so that their carrying capacity increases even further.

This new acoustic Carbstone can hardly be distinguished from traditional concrete and has almost the same properties. The carbonized Soundblox, like the traditional well-known acoustic concrete blocks, are equipped with the characteristic and familiar Helmholtz resonators for the absorption of sound, which is absorbed through the openings of the blocks and into the sound chambers behind them. The regular vision blocks, with which Soundblox can be combined in a wall, are also available in this new material.

Revolutionary technology

Thus, the advantage of this technology is that more CO2 is absorbed during production than emitted. Even after being incorporated into the wall, Soundblox continues to absorb and retain CO2. In addition, this material is completely recyclable. Although Soundblox are still available in concrete, Soundless Acoustics wants to use this technology to actively contribute to the climate transition in which cement-free production will eventually become the norm.
