Wasterial is a Lille-based company with a mission to give a second life to waste from local products. In collaboration with Detremmerie, Wasterial developed build-up bowls made of mussel and oyster shells, leftover ceramics, wine bottles and broken car windows. Since its founding, Detremmerie has held functionality and style in high regard. Today, Detremmerie also wants to do its part against global warming. Besides functionality and style, sustainability is also an aspect that is high on Detremmerie's agenda.
The versatility of colors ensures that the washbasins can be flawlessly combined with the bathroom manufacturer's cabinets as well as other accessories in the bathroom. Both neutral colors such as black, brown and off-white. May the washbowl be a little more prominent in the bathroom? Then the striking green, red or blue colors offer solace.
In addition to the cooperation between the two firms, other efforts are being made in other areas of sustainable business. For example, Detremmerie works primarily with European suppliers to reduce transport distances. Moreover, a few years ago the firm invested in a packaging machine that tailors packaging to the furniture produced. In this way, the company avoids unnecessary transportation of air. On top of that, the logistics department makes the necessary efforts to have a truck leave only when the storage space has been optimally used.
To minimize the environmental impact, all of Detremmerie's trucks meet the EURO 6 standard. Investment for conversion to electric commercial vehicles has also begun.
Not only the geographical location of the suppliers is important. During the selection process, Detremmerie will also pay attention to the company's sustainability. For example, the supplier of the HDF boards works with more than half recycled wood. The waste remains of the board material are kept in a silo. During the winter months, Detremmerie heats its factory and offices with the leftover board material. Flue gas emissions from the incinerator are drawn through an activated carbon filter. This filters out all unhealthy particles so there is no environmental impact. Paint emissions from the spray booth are also filtered through a carbon filter.
Since 2011, solar panels rated at 200KW have been installed on Detremmerie's roof. Plans are on the table to invest an additional 450KW of solar panels.
Detremmerie has traditionally ( since 1939 ) felt responsible for the well-being of people and the environment. Long before ' sustainability' became a topic that every modern company takes into account, the founder's son, Mr. René Detremmerie, made sustainable thinking a priority within the company.
Very quickly he was able to build a tower to recycle wood waste, burn it and heat the entire company. The factory buildings with an actual area of more than 20 000 m 2 are equipped with solar panels throughout whenever possible.
Therefore, we are proud to commit the entire Detremmerie team to a brand that is committed to protecting the environment. So we recently partnered with a company that produces sinks from 70 % recycled material. Used porcelain, broken windshields, mussel and oyster shells serve as the basic raw material to produce these items. In doing so, we like to do our part as Detremmerie to keep our ecological footprint as small as possible.
Soon the wash bowls, soap dishes and cups will be added to our range !
