Millboard cladding gives homes a warm, durable and fresh character. “The panels not only look like real wood, but also exceed its properties,” says Manon Gelen of Tholin, specialists in facade and building panels. “Both in terms of appearance, maintenance and lifespan. Not for nothing do more and more companies and private individuals choose Millboard's products.” A good example can be found in Goor, where a thirty-year-old villa looks completely contemporary again thanks to the combination of new white stucco and Millboard Board & Batten+ cladding.
The detached villa is owned by entrepreneur Daan Oosterbeek, who has given the country-style home a major upgrade. “The house used to belong to his parents and therefore has a special place in his heart,” says Gelen. “Thanks to the recent renovation, it also meets all current living requirements again. Both energetically and aesthetically.”

During the renovation, among other things, the roof was renewed and raised a bit, she says. “The home also received a completely new exterior envelope, replacing the beige-gray brick all around with white stucco combined with luxury siding.”
For the cladding, Oosterbeek very deliberately sought the look of wood, but without the disadvantages in terms of maintenance, operation and discoloration. “Through the Skybox Foundation, he came into contact with co-owner Bart Jannink of Tholin, who showed several Millboard samples. Both in type and color, based on which the Board & Batten+ profiled facade panels in the color Golden Oak were quickly chosen. Both for the house, the garage and the rear canopy.”
“Board & Batten+ combines four different widths, tactile height differences and natural grain patterns in one board, creating a unique and versatile cladding,” Gelen says. “The specific angles of the cladding create a subtle shadow effect between the veins, while the thicker sections contribute to high impact resistance and effective water drainage. As a result, aesthetic and technical properties come together perfectly.” In the recess at the front of the homes, the Board & Batten+ facade panels are stylishly interspersed with the flat Shadow Line+ panels in Golden Oak color. “Day edges with Millboard Fascia complete the aesthetic picture.”

“Because the Millboard cladding is colored and post-processed by hand, a very natural hue is created,” Gelen emphasizes. “This means Millboard guarantees timeless beauty as well as unparalleled quality, with long-term durability of color and appearance.” Color stability has been tested within 4.5% over a ten-year period, and for some colors even within 2.5%. “In addition, the panels are resistant to the adhesion of mosses and algae. Residents therefore save substantially on maintenance costs, so the investment in Millboard quickly pays for itself.”
“Millboard was developed as a better alternative to (hard)wood, bamboo and wood-plastic composite, without losing sight of durability,” she summarizes. “The panels last many years longer than real wood, without sacrificing the look and feel. In addition, Millboard products do not rot, splinter or warp, making staining, painting or other major maintenance a thing of the past. Production losses due to knots are also not an issue. Because of the quality ingredients Millboard uses, the wood can stay in nature where it belongs.”
Tholin offers an extensive range of Millboard siding. “All with their own color, texture and properties,” says Gelen. “The panels are made from mostly recycled raw materials. The solid core consists of limestone powder, which is combined with polyurethane resin and fiberglass. Wood or wood fibers are not found in Millboard's manufacturing process. Yet the appearance of wood is imitated very realistically thanks to a wood-like pattern in the unique, elastic Lastane top layer. Because this top layer closes very nicely after applying the fasteners, Millboard can be processed easily and without visible screws. This makes the product ideally suited for architectural projects such as in Goor.”
Like real wood, the lightweight panels can be processed with standard tools, such as a miter saw, handsaw or jigsaw.
