A big effect with a relatively small investment. K14 designs and delivers custom-made fronts and worktops for all well-known kitchen brands, including IKEA, enabling a complete kitchen renovation to be carried out in one day. "The kitchen is increasingly serving as the centerpiece of the home," notes Sanne Donkers, Marketing Manager at K14. "The demand for kitchen fronts and colors, as well as accessories and countertops, is greater than ever. Everyone wants to design their own unique kitchen. K14 responds to this with more than 1,000 color, style and material combinations, for every taste and budget. In our showrooms in Arnhem, Breda and Zwolle, consumers can find extensive inspiration. Also in the field of custom furniture fronts and interior panels, with which the rest of the interior can also be upgraded."
"In our kitchen renovations, approximately 70-80% of the existing kitchen is retained," Donkers says. "That makes kitchen renovation a very sustainable and economical choice. We preserve everything that is still good." At the base of the new fronts is MDF, which is finished with layer of real oak or walnut (oak or walnut veneer), she says. "This gives our kitchen fronts the look of solid oak or walnut, with the difference that the material doesn't warp or crack. In addition, wood veneer is up to 40% cheaper than solid wood. Rubio Monocoat products provide the right color finish and protection in this regard."
"Since our start in 2018, we have been working with Rubio Monocoat's wood oils, such as Oil Plus 2C and Invisible Protector," Donkers says. "Both for our fronts and for all samples. Whereas the Invisible Protector ensures a natural look for our oak and walnut fronts, within Oil Plus 2C the color Charcoal (dark oak) is especially popular. Here, the Accelerator - Component B ensures faster drying and curing and an even stronger end result." In addition to the oils and accelerator, K14 also uses Rubio Monocoat's maintenance kits and loose removers to properly maintain the kitchen fronts. "This further extends the lifespan of our fronts," he said.
"What is special about our Oil Plus 2C oil is the bonding," says Sjoerd Bos, Sales Manager at Rubio Monocoat Netherlands. "The oil enters into a molecular bond with the wood fibers in the wood surface, thus protecting and coloring the wood in just one layer. This avoids overlaps and deposits and gives you superior wood protection, at very low consumption. It also preserves the natural look and feel of the wood and its unique grain structure. The oil enriches the natural look of the wood, is very ecological (VOC-free) and contains no water or solvents. With this we also guarantee the safety and health of the user and his environment."
Oil Plus 2C is suitable for almost all wood species and wood types (solid wood, veneer, MDF, ...). The combination of an oil and accelerator guarantees fast curing, while a very low consumption of 1 liter per 30-50 m2 helps to reduce our waste streams.
"Oil Plus 2C is one of the most versatile wood oils on the market," emphasizes Bos. "The oil can be applied to floors, furniture and stairs, for example, but is also ideally suited for countertops and other surfaces that come into contact with food. Oil Plus 2C is Food Contact Compliant in accordance with EC No. 1935/2004. This declaration - issued by independent test institute Eurofins - confirms that, for example, cutting boards, kitchen worktops and table tops treated with Oil Plus 2C 100% are safe for domestic use."
Oil Plus 2C also has an LCA from VITO and a B-EPD from the FPS Public Health. Rubio Monocoat is also the first in the wood treatment sector to obtain the 'Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold' label and GREENGUARD GOLD certificate. The oil also meets the toy standard EN 71-3.
Until recently, Oil Plus 2C was available in 40 base colors and 12 accent colors. In early February, this range was expanded by another 20 new colors, Bos says. "With this, we are responding to the wishes of architects and end users who - in addition to oak - also want to finish and protect other types of wood. Think, for example, of softwood, which is particularly popular in Scandinavian countries. With our new wood colors, other wood species also come into their own perfectly. With this, we offer architects and end users unlimited possibilities."
During MaterialDistrict - from March 12 to 14, 2025 in the Werkspoor Cathedral in Utrecht - interested parties could admire the latest colors. In addition, they could learn about DuroGrit; a sustainable, wood fiber-enriched and water-soluble oil that colors and protects all exterior wood in just one coat.
