Ecological 'zero gloss' finishes

Ecological 'zero gloss' finishes

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important criterion in consumer buying behavior. The paint industry provided a first response to this evolution with water-based paints. Today, Ciranova goes a big step further. With the 'Ciranova Plus' range, this manufacturer now offers floor finishing products that consist of at least 35 percent bio-based raw materials. And with UN1CO, it has launched a two-component oil on the market that is 90 percent with  renewable raw materials is manufactured.

Ciranova is a manufacturer that values sustainability. The company even appropriates the title of global innovator in the wood finishing industry. Not unfairly, as it has succeeded in taking the wood finishing products industry to a higher ecological echelon.

"The water-based finishes were already a big step forward," says David Verrue, Ciranova's marketing manager. "But we didn't think that was enough. Such products are still largely made with fossil fuels. Moreover, they are not optimal for the health of the users. Because we subscribe to the 'Sustainable Development Goals' of the United Nations, we have been actively pursuing R&D toward the application of new bio-based and renewable raw materials in finishing products for several years."

Thanks to the excellent flow properties, the products are easy to apply without overlapping.

Scoop in floor treatment products

Today, this strategy is bearing its first fruit. Because recently this innovative manufacturer launched the "Ciranova Plus" range, a series of new and improved floor treatment products based on bio-based raw materials. "The beauty of this solution is that performance is not compromised," says David Verrue. "On the contrary, thanks to their excellent flow properties, the products are easy to apply without overlapping. The result? Floors that are extremely stain and scratch resistant, do not yellow and prevent black heel marks. Moreover, these products set a new standard in terms of health."

Minimal gloss, maximum natural appearance

The biggest advantage is that the 'Ciranova Plus' range preserves the natural look of the wood and provides invisible protection. This is all due to the bio-based resin used, the result of an open innovation process with DSM . "Decovery® is a range of environmentally friendly coating resins made primarily from plants," explains David Verrue. "It delivers excellent performance, provides a safer and healthier environment, and reduces the carbon footprint. Currently, the range contains at least 35 percent of this biobased resin that also results in an invisible finish. Hence, we also found 'zero gloss oil' an appropriate baseline of the 'Ciranova Plus' range."

Three times is a charm

Today, the 'Ciranova Plus' range is available in three finishes. The 'OCULTO Plus' provides a slightly intense finish for all interior wood such as floors, furniture, doors and stairs. The 'ECOFIX Plus' gives an invisible natural finish and finally there is the 'WOODLOOK Plus' which guarantees a slightly bleaching natural finish.

Ciranova also developed an excellent ecological alternative for staining and protecting interior wood: the two-component oil UN1CO.

Also with renewable resources

Ciranova also developed an excellent ecological alternative for staining and protecting interior wood. UN1CO is a two-component oil that contains as much as 90 percent renewable resources. "This product is the result of a unique technology," says David Verrue. "As a result, one coat is sufficient to finish and protect the wood. The combination of oil and hardener ensures rapid drying and excellent chemical resistance. The oil is also easy to apply and repair.  if needed. Last but not least, the 'UN1CO' contains 0 percent VOCs. This gave the product the Eurofins gold certification for air quality in buildings, meaning that a wide range of (inter)national emission standards are met."

Coming soon from new building

Ciranova continues to invest in R&D into new, bio-based and renewable raw materials to develop sustainable products that perform optimally and minimize the impact on our planet. Starting this year, even from a brand new base in Roeselare, a fine example of sustainable building.
