No one will want to dispute that statement. GND's labels, well-known in the market, are confirmation of those safety ambitions.Introduction
With these labels, the building code is complied with, and with the GND assurance classes, GND's member manufacturers also offer a guarantee of the functional performance of the delivered and fitted products. "Our advice is therefore clear," says Henk Breel director at the umbrella interest group GND. "An architect should immediately include these assurance labels when prescribing. After all, right from the design 'we should' all want to talk about safety."
When asked whether architects and designers would then not be restricted in their design freedoms, Henk is also clear. "Let them also, above all, remain a bit stubborn. That is precisely their strength. After all, we still need that amazing creativity in the market. So the freedom of architects to design something remains. I am also convinced that the manufacturers of doors are also creative enough so that they always come up with appropriate solutions within the set designs. I would even dare to say here that the manufacturers can do almost anything."
Still, Henk acknowledges that there may be some tension in the coming years. "The question is which standard we will choose in Europe. That is difficult to predict. After all, Europe does strive for a certain harmonization and we also see that the Netherlands is not leading in that discussion, but the fact is that we all already comply with those European agreements. So I don't foresee many problems there. So we - as an interest group - don't have to put so much energy into that."
So the architects and designers can continue to "do their thing. "In any case, the architect has already sharply embraced a theme such as sustainability. Furthermore, all we can do is point out to him that in the second quarter of this year, for example, the new requirements of smoke resistance will take effect and all components will be tested then. But the members affiliated with us have obviously already anticipated this for a long time."
So safety will always remain paramount. And the market wants to see this. The GND guarantee labels were then developed to make the fire, smoke, burglary and noise resistance of a door or door-frame combination easily visible to everyone. "The fire-resistant GND door can be recognized by the red guarantee label and the security label placed underneath it equipped with a fire icon in the hanging side of the door. After reading the QR code, you can see at a glance what performance the door or door-frame combination provides, for example 30 or 60 minutes of fire resistance."
Checking smoke resistance is done in the same way. "For example, one can read there on the performance screen whether the door meets the Sa or S200 requirement."
