Millboard stands for quality, luxury and durability. The unique cladding was developed as a better alternative to wood, without losing sight of sustainability. "Millboard not only looks like real wood, but also exceeds its properties," says Bart Jannink, co-owner of Tholin Building Products. "For example, Millboard's unique composition ensures its durability. The planks last many years longer than real wood, without losing their look and feel. Millboard planks cannot crack, expand, expand or discolor, which saves an enormous amount of maintenance. Nor is there any loss of production due to knots. Because of the quality ingredients Millboard uses, the wood can stay in nature where it belongs."
Jannink has more than 25 years of experience in cladding. About three years ago, together with a business partner, he started Tholin Building Products, which imports various board materials from leading suppliers. Both structural, fire-resistant and aesthetic, of which Millboard is a sophisticated example. "To ensure the right product choices for each project, we provide comprehensive education for architects," he says. "For example, about product properties, application possibilities and design freedoms. In addition, we support contractors and building owners in the correct application of our products."
Tholin offers an extensive range of Millboard siding boards. "All with their own color, structure and properties," says Jannink. "Thereby, the quality of Millboard planks is always beyond question." The planks are made from largely recycled raw materials, he says.
"At the base is a stone that is ground into a very fine limestone powder and combined with polyurethane resin and fiberglass, for example. No wood or wood fibers are involved in the production. Nevertheless, the appearance of wood is very closely approximated. For example, thanks to a wood-like pattern applied to a special top layer, with the same properties as cork. Because the top layer closes very nicely after the fasteners are applied, Millboard can be processed easily and without visible screws. Just like real wood, the boards can also be worked with standard tools, such as a miter saw, handsaw or jigsaw."
Millboard facade boards are suitable for such applications as conservatories, canopies, outbuildings, garden rooms and detached and semi-detached houses. "The natural authenticity of the planks can truly be called special," emphasizes Jannink. "Because the planks are colored and reworked by hand, a very natural hue is created. With this, Millboard guarantees timeless beauty and unparalleled quality, with the durability of color and appearance guaranteed for the long term. The discoloration is less than 4.5% - and in some colors even less than 2.5 % - over a period of ten years."
Those who choose Millboard have a choice of different types of cladding with vibrant colors such as Antique Oak, Burt Cedar and Golden Oak. "First of all, there is the Shadow Line; an channelsiding-style cladding with a modern and exclusive look, which is available in seven standard colors," Jannink says. "In addition, with Board and Batten, we also offer a profiled Millboard plank in six standard colors, creating a more dynamic facade. Both Shadow Line and Board and Batten are closed facade systems, which can be mounted horizontally and vertically." Also unique are the Fascia edge boards, which can be supplied in eight standard colors.
A great reference for the Fascia facade planks is the new headquarters of animal feed producer P.C. van Tuijl in Kesteren, for which the architect and client were looking for a low-maintenance facade with a true-to-life wood look. "Also special was the roof of the new building, which had to have a specific curve similar to the Wimbledon tennis stadium," says Jannink. "This proved impossible to achieve with the desired types of wood. Therefore, our Fascia facade boards were also used here, which can be flexibly set. This created a beautiful aesthetic. The lines of the roof overhang run seamlessly into the facade."
