Burgundy Twin Pancakes & More always breathes the right atmosphere

Smart mood lighting creates special experience in modern pancake restaurant

A unique business card in the backyard of Tronix Lighting. That is Twin Pancakes & More in Uden. The Burgundian restaurant and family business focuses on pancakes, but in a slightly different way than you are used to. In addition, delicious meat and fish dishes and salads come from the kitchen, which can be enjoyed in a contemporary and trendy atmosphere. At Twin Pancakes & More passion, craftsmanship and culinary love predominate. Also characteristic is the warm atmosphere, which is supported by the smart lighting solutions of Tronix Lighting.

Twin Pancakes & More is located in a historic building on Kapelstraat that has served as a boys' school, parish house, antique center and fabric hall, among other things. For about 20 years, the building has been owned by Paul Raymakers, DGA of Qubus Real Estate Development, and has had a catering function. Raymakers is responsible for the real estate development, remodeling and interior design of Twin Pancakes & More. In doing so, he has worked very closely with his son Robin and daughter Celine Raymakers, who run the burgundy restaurant. Architect Hans Kuijten was involved for the interior design. "With his design, he managed to add atmosphere, experience and warmth to the restaurant concept," Raymakers says. "But with a modern approach. The lighting is fully supportive of this design."

Atmosphere and taste come together

"To achieve a sophisticated design, a number of basic parties are essential," said Raymakers, citing the architect, interior designer and lighting supplier as examples. 

"In this project, we worked with professional local parties whenever possible, such as Tronix Lighting. This lighting provider has a wide range of luminaires and controllers, enabling a total solution. As an introduction, we shared Hans Kuijten's initial sketches. We also sparred together about the possibilities for this project. Important here was that atmosphere and taste together create a unique restaurant experience. The Tronix Lighting team put a lot of time and energy into working this out. That gave us confidence, which was also fulfilled. Anyone who visits the restaurant and picks up the interior design will see that the translation has been adopted almost one to one."

Indirect light

"The initial sketches were developed into a comprehensive set of drawings and realistic visuals, in which lighting played a clear role," says Maarten Verbruggen, managing director of Tronix Lighting. "We translated this aesthetic design into concrete products and a sophisticated lighting plan, with a wide range of wall fixtures, track spots, LED strips, LED modules and DALI dimming modules. Essential in the lighting plan is the use of indirect light, which reduces the contrast between light and shadow and prevents glare. In addition, indirect light creates more atmosphere. An important role here is played by the wall fixtures, which allow light to reflect off the walls and spread widely throughout the room. LED strip solutions in the bar and furniture result in a special hotel lobby atmosphere, while track rail spotlights add a warm finishing touch."

Playing with atmospheres

Tronix Lighting was not only a supplier of the lighting, but also supported the executing parties, Verbruggen says. "We delivered our fixtures to Verwijst Elektro, which handled the installation. Smarthome Domotica was then responsible for the automation. Twin Pancakes & More has several lighting circuits, all of which can be dimmed individually. The restaurant works with appropriate atmospheres for lunch and dinner, also anticipating light and dark days. Light control is automated via a smart system in the central control cabinet and linked to an app. This allows the right lighting atmosphere to be created at any time and with just the push of a button." 

At the moment, work is still primarily done with daytime atmospheres, Raymakers emphasizes. "This is because the basic settings and light colors are already very suitable for the restaurant. In the future, however, we want to use the home automation functions even more. For example, for the dinner shows, which started in November and in which the lighting is very decisive."

Twin Pancakes & More opened in September 2021 and the response has been overwhelming. Guests love coming back because of the special menu and atmosphere. Verbruggen is also very satisfied with the result and has already visited the restaurant several times. The Christmas dinner of Tronix Lighting will also be served at Twin Pancakes & More...
