Those who design and build sustainably think about all parts of the building, including the roof. For many years, the RENOLIT Group has been committed to innovative solutions that contribute to a sustainable living environment. Think, for example, of a green and sustainable roof, or a roof that generates energy.
Solar panels on roofs are becoming more and more natural, including when it comes to commercial buildings. Especially for this purpose, RENOLIT developed the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Solar system. This ultra-light plastic profile with aluminum reinforcement was mounted this summer on the roof of the Aspen indoor ski slope in Wilrijk (BE). Communication manager BNL Ingrid Baert: "We covered the roof with PVC several years ago. The company now wanted to use the roof to generate energy. This should lead to greener energy consumption, lower electricity costs and less dependence on the electricity grid."
The roof of the indoor ski slope is covered with more than 2,400 solar panels. "For us, this was really a prestige project. A special roof, with an impressive appearance. Because it is a ski slope, it is a high building, with a maximum of 40 meters. For this high slope, the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Solar system is ideally suited. It offers a safe and wind-resistant solution for mounting solar panels." Together with the customer, RENOLIT always looks at the best solution for each situation. "In this case, the plastic roof was covered with a 1.2 mm foil. In order to mount our Solar System, however, a minimum thickness of 1.5 mm is necessary. We therefore had the part of the roof on which there are solar panels overlaid."
A ski slope roof is, of course, exceptional. However, Ingrid explains that RENOLIT is convinced that a sustainable covering is possible for almost any roof. "We are constantly developing innovative and sustainable membranes and systems with a view to greater sustainability, less use of resources and a more circular economy. Currently, we offer five different products for climate-neutral and energy-efficient construction and renovation. Of these, the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Solar system is one. With each new project, we look at which solution fits this best."
- "RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Green is an optimized green roof system
which has enormous added value for both new construction and renovation projects. Green roofs offer a wealth of environmental benefits: they increase biodiversity, improve air quality, reduce CO2 emissions, extend the life of roofing materials and reduce the risk of flooding because they buffer water during heavy rainfall."
- RENOLIT also has a solution for blue roofs. Retention roofs store water when it rains and then release it in a controlled manner. Thus, no precious resources are lost and the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall is reduced.
- Reflective cool roof roofs are an ideal solution to combat climate change, according to the company. With the highest solar reflectance index on the market (SRI 115), RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Bright and Cool roofing membranes provide unparalleled reflection of the sun's rays.
- "The RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart membrane, with a thickness of only 1.2 mm, is a roofing membrane with better performance and longer life, using fewer resources," says Ingrid. "In addition, the product features Solar Shield technology, a special coating that protects the roofing membrane from UV rays. This product contributes to sustainability certifications for buildings such as LEED, BREEAM and GREEN."
All sustainable RENOLIT products receive extra attention in the company's new campaign. "We are very committed to sustainability in construction and call on all stakeholders to protect what is important, whether it is a building, the environment or our planet!"
