Shaw is the first flooring manufacturer to receive the Works with WELL product license

The licensing program verifies that the carpet tiles meet the WELL Building Standard, making it easier for customers to meet design requirements for health and well-being.

Shaw Industries Group, Inc. (Shaw) has licensed the Works with WELLTM mark for its EcoWorx® and EcoWorx S™ carpet tile products, which are available from Shaw Contract worldwide. Through a licensing program offered by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), the new mark demonstrates that the company's EcoWorx® and EcoWorx S™ align with the health strategies within the WELL Building Standard (WELLTM), making it easier for specifiers and buyers to choose products that contribute to meeting certain WELL certification requirements.

Shaw is the first flooring manufacturer to receive the Works with WELL product license and, as an early adopter, has the world's first carpet products to receive the seal. EcoWorx® was developed in the late 1990s and was the first PVC-free carpet tile. The product, which is fully recyclable, subsequently became the first flooring product to receive Cradle to Cradle Certified® certification, verifying it as safe, circular and responsibly made. The new WELL mark also includes EcoWorx S™, the U.K.-manufactured closed-loop carpet tile solution launched in May during Clerkenwell Design Week.

Obtaining the Works with WELL mark is further evidence of the company's commitment to creating products that support the health and well-being of the planet and its people. In addition to using the mark, brand teams can use a QR code that redirects users to the product page on the IWBI's website for more information on the alignment of WELL features.

WELL is the world's leading standard focused on promoting the health and well-being of people with a library of holistic, evidence-based strategies applicable in buildings, organizations and communities. Developed over more than 10 years, WELL is supported by the latest scientific research. It includes key building-level interventions and organizational strategies in 10 concept areas: Air, Water, Food, Light, Motion, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Spirit and Community.

The alignment of EcoWorx and Ecoworx S with the material concept means that the products can help achieve the following WELL certification characteristics:

- X05.2 - avoidance of select material ingredients.

- X06.2 - low VOC emissions.

- X07.1 - listing of ingredients

- X08.1 - materials with enhanced chemical limitations

- X08.2 - optimized products

"By validating that EcoWorx and EcowWorx S match the health characteristics of materials within WELL, the Works with WELL trademark makes it even easier for customers focused on health and wellness to make confident purchasing decisions," notes Kellie Ballew, vice president of global sustainability and innovation at Shaw.

IWBI granted the license to use the Works with WELL trademark after Shaw submitted an application to IWBI and underwent a third-party document review to confirm that the following specific products and features meet the requirements for the license required by IWBI.

This designation is the latest example of Shaw's commitment to the health of materials and providing market-based solutions for its customers. Other examples of the company's leadership and commitment include:

- Nearly 90 percent of the products the company produces are Cradle to Cradle Certified® - evaluated for health of materials, protection of clean air and climate, product circularity, water and soil management and social justice.

- The company is one of the first 30 companies in the world to pursue the WELL Equity Rating. Work is currently underway to rate Shaw buildings.

- Shaw managers are part of the WELL Home Advisory and the WELL Materials Advisory, which provide insight into healthy homes and the development of the WELL Materials concept.

Shaw is a core member of the IWBI, a network of global brands that support the WELL movement by sharing expertise and solutions that promote people's health and well-being.

"Shaw's continued innovation and validation of its efforts against rigorous third-party standards are essential to creating places where people come first," said Rachel Hodgdon, president and CEO of the IWBI. "We commend Shaw for his long-term commitment to designing products that positively impact people and the environment."
