Cast floors based on 85% natural raw materials

The officials of Hengelo Municipality have been working in a new city office and renovated town hall since the beginning of 2020. The new city office includes approximately 8,000 m² of office space, 900 m² of public space and a parking basement of 2,200 m² and is equipped as much as possible with sustainable and ecologically responsible finishing materials. Local parties were also chosen for the work and product deliveries. Also when it comes to the cast floors. While Qlick Technofloor (Hengelo) was responsible for the application of the self-levelling floors, Uzin Utz Nederland (Haaksbergen) took care of the supply of Arturo primers/scrapers, self-levelling floors, top coats and coatings.

Commissioned by construction consortium Stadskantoor Hengelo (Trebbe Bouw/Van Wijnen), Qlick Technofloor fitted the first floor, pantry, elevator cores, public staircases, (partly) second floor and passerelle (connecting bridge) to the monumental town hall with polyurethane cast floors.

"On our recommendation, we chose a system from Arturo Flooring based on 85% natural raw materials," says Daniël Verheij, director/owner at Qlick Technofloor. "The Arturo PU2060 Flooring has an Environmental Product Declaration and is AgBB certified. This means that the product meets strict emission standards. Moreover, Uzin Utz Netherlands is located just 12 km from the city office. For the foundation of its new green plant, the manufacturer and supplier used the concrete rubble and residual materials released during the renovation of the city hall several years ago. These factors, among others, convinced architect EGM and the municipality."

Working closely with Arturo Key Account Manager Jeroen Strecker, Qlick Technofloor selected the right products for this project. Then the screeds were applied in four weeks. "First, we diamond sanded the existing anhydrite screeds. Minor repairs were made where necessary, after which we applied an epoxy primer and epoxy scraper coat," Verheij says. "Then the PU2060 casting floor was poured, with a non-yellowing, colorfast PU3320 sealing layer and transparent PU7975 top coat on top. What is special is that this also included the public stairs."

In the parking basement, the concrete floor was partly diamond sanded and partly shot blasted, after which the floor surface was coated with a two-layer and vapor permeable Arturo EP3600 floor coating. All screeds, top coats and coatings were finished in traffic gray.
