The front door is the business card of every home and tells a lot about the house, the chosen architectural style and the occupants. It is therefore important not to take any chances when selecting the front door. Indeed, the front door offers the opportunity to make a design statement from the outset. Kegro Deuren supports this with a new and progressive line of doors, in which diversity, individuality and functionality come together in an excellent way. Developed in close collaboration with five leading architectural firms, Architectura puts the front door firmly back on the map. Meet the new standard in doors!
For half a century, Kegro Deuren has been the specialist in affordable wooden exterior doors, combining excellent door performance and numerous design options. "Back in the 1990s, together with a number of architects, we set up a line of doors that has been adopted by many door manufacturers and is now the standard in door country," says commercial director Marco van den Hoven. "At the basis of this door line were flat panel doors with grooves, upstands and decorative slats, with which numerous door designs could be created."
He says the success of the door line has been both a blessing and a curse. "Of course it is nice that our door line was received with open arms. But this has also resulted in many doors in the Netherlands being uniform. In order to give the front door back its deserved role as a business card as well as a design statement, we started developing a new and contemporary design line in 2020."
The development started with a conversation with architect Michael van Bergen of Van Bergen Architectura, who was very enthusiastic about the plans. "Through Michael, we came into contact with four more enthusiastic and inspiring architectural firms (TANK, M 3H, FARO and Bedaux de Brouwer Architects), with whom we formed a close-knit development team," said Van den Hoven. "A first workshop in Groesbeek followed on September 13, 2021, in which the starting points for the new model series were outlined. Soon the first ideas were on the table and a special cross-pollination occurred, of which the Architectura design line is the unique result."
Architects focus primarily on look and feel, while for manufacturers, feasibility, manufacturability and production efficiency are particularly important, says Van den Hoven. "Bringing this together resulted in extraordinary new door designs. But also challenges, for which we found a solution together. We experimented with and invested in new techniques, tools and machining methods to harmonize creativity, functionality and feasibility."
"For example, one of the architects did not want a letter plate but a hole in the door, so that a letter plate can be integrated ín the door. This is impossible with today's requirements, but got us thinking. We have since started designing a new type of letterbox for this. Another architect wanted the door slats to run freely over the glass, so we modified the production sequence and fastening of these slats. As a result, the new door models have a unique touch, for which one should really turn to Kegro Doors."
What is also unique is that the "jewelry" (trimmings/letterboxes/grilles) are included in the door design and therefore form an inseparable part of the door design. A total of nine complete door concepts have been designed, which are applicable in the renovation market, new construction and high-rise buildings and can also be produced in volumes. The doors can be ordered starting in the first quarter of 2024. Van den Hoven is already giving a small hint. For example, Van Bergen Architectura developed a unique letterbox door (Belle) and a door with a slightly higher neg (Coco), which limits views into the home. "Also special are TANK's Biophilic and The Groove designs, which are inspired by the irregular lines of nature. Moreover, TANK very nicely pulls the look and feel of the outside through to the inside."
The Legato and Cresendo by M 3H are distinguished by an exciting play of horizontal and vertical sills, he says, inspired by the strumming of stringed instruments and incorporating the handle as well. "FARO developed an industrial line for the entire house, playing with shading and in which the sidelight gives way to a small, passive door, while Bedaux de Brouwer Architects, on the other hand, took the classic path of fluting (vertical slots). A sophisticated range of jewelry completes these doors."
All doors are highly insulated and comply with the highest stability class, KOMO and GND. If required, the doors can also be fire and smoke resistant. Where architects and residents select the design of their choice, Kegro Deuren ensures the right door performance.
