Environmentally friendly paint based on mineral powder

In new construction and renovation projects in the year 2020, much attention is paid to sustainability. For example, when it comes to building materials and installation techniques. "However, the paint still often remains a closing item on the budget and receives too little attention in the sustainability story," believes Willemijn Wortelboer, owner of RAW Paints. 

"It is quite illogical that we are still working with cans of paint, which are filled with water for up to 60% and which contain all kinds of solvents and preservatives to guarantee shelf life. In fact, these agents take up to five years to evaporate and are bad for the environment as well as our health. RAW Paints' mission is to make architects, contractors and painting companies aware of this."

In recent years, RAW Paints has developed a unique paint powder formula, mineral-based and free of titanium dioxide, volatile organic compounds and pesticides. "Our white paint powder formula is excellent for stone and concrete, stucco, masonry and plaster (cement-based) and both developed for exterior and interior applications," says Wortelboer. "Think for example of facades, ceilings, living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms and basements, which can be finished in one go and fully opaque. Once mixed with water, the paint powder creates an electrification with the mineral/brick substrate, so flaking off of the paint is not an issue. For more difficult applications, RWP028 is recommended; a powder that when combined with an emulsion provides even better adhesion to damp substrates."

In recent years, RAW Paints has been testing the paint powder extensively and in-house, under high pressure and on various substrates. "The colors are produced with pigments from ground stones and minerals," said Wortelboer. "This way we stay as close to nature as possible, for a natural look!"
