Work on acoustics and strokeability

A design for Newday Offices Utrecht Papendorp in collaboration with design & build partner Leidmotiv brought interior designer Sheryl Leysner of Amsterdam in contact with HollandFelt, a brand name of wool wholesaler Richard Wernekinck of Delft. Leysner: "We were looking for a way to apply colored shapes to the wall and felt turned out to be the best solution."

In the search for colored shapes, several options passed in review. "We looked at paint, but then you first had to have a stencil sticker made and have it painted on. Stickers were also an option, but I'm not a fan of using plastic. Felt turned out to be a wonderful alternative. It's like gluing a type of wallpaper directly to the wall. That immediately does something to the acoustics and cuddliness of a room."

Sheryl Leysner has had her own eponymous firm since 2011. "With a team of seven employees, we design and realize a variety of complete projects for hospitality, offices, healthcare, retail, community centers and residential homes. Here, hospitality always takes precedence. We design everything to measure, except the chairs. The mood lighting we design is handmade by our own production team in Amsterdam."

The choice of felt is easy. Leysner: "You experience an inte-rieur with all your senses; your nose, your eyes and your hands; you feel the fabrics on the wall. And my credo is; the more senses you can stimulate as a designer, the better. Our design team also has an affinity for Feng Shui, an ancient philosophy that teaches how the environment affects the happiness of its users."
