Polycolor 2K SQ from ADLER: high-quality coating for colored plastic window frames

Looking for a professional colored coating for plastic window frames? Then look no further: the Austrian paint and lacquer manufacturer ADLER has developed the water-based 2K coating Polycolor 2K SQ for PVC window frames. This coating is characterized by high hardness and good scratch resistance. "In contrast to foils or colored plastic, the surface also does not discolor - and a very long shelf life is guaranteed. In addition, the window frame can be cleaned very easily and the coating is available in a very wide range of colors," Leon Cremers, director of ADLER Benelux from Heeze, Brabant, explains the innovative product. With the addition of the hardener Aqua-Hardener PRO, window frames then stay like new even in the long term.

You ask.

Increasingly, ADLER was hearing from window frame manufacturers that they would like to paint PVC window frames or doors in a high-quality manner. Colored window frames and front doors are becoming increasingly popular in modern architecture - and in addition to painted wooden frames, most manufacturers also offer the cheaper plastic frames. In terms of surface quality, however, sacrifices have to be made there. Colored plastic surfaces fade or yellow when exposed to sunlight - and the foil variant is only interesting in large quantities. In addition, many customers find the white bar that usually remains in the middle of the window distracting. In addition, cleaning window frames with film is often difficult: "Dirt is difficult to remove," Cremers said. With a painted surface, this is an entirely different story. Many manufacturers therefore wondered why a plastic window frame cannot simply be sprayed with lacquer.

... we turn

At ADLER, the customer is king - and so the company set to work developing an innovative coating for plastic window frames. And they succeeded: Polycolor 2K SQ is a water-based two-pack paint with which a very high mechanical and chemical resistance can be achieved. The specially developed activator Polyactive SB optimally prepares the plastic substrate for the coating. This cleaning and degreasing agent is the ideal adhesion promoter thanks to its antistatic effect.

Plenty of opportunities

Polycolor 2K SQ is easy to process and offers users plenty of possibilities - because the lacquer is available in virtually any color, whether RAL or NCS. By adding different pastes, even structured surfaces are possible. In addition, the lacquer can be equipped with a special anti-heat function, which significantly reduces the surface temperature in direct sunlight. Thus, the deformation dreaded with plastic window frames can be prevented. Last but not least, even co-extruded seals can be painted immediately after an adhesion test.

Open pot time of more than eight hours

Polycolor 2K SQ can be used in combination with ADLER's Aqua-Hardener PRO. Normally, however, such 2K coatings have one major drawback: the limited open pot time. Namely, the processing time is often only two hours or less. This does not apply to Aqua-Hardener PRO; in fact, it has an open pot time of more than eight hours. "Because of this new hardener, processors can work much more flexibly," says Cremers. Indeed, with the open pot time of more than eight hours, the 2K coatings can be used throughout the working day, whereas processors previously had to remix the paint and hardener every two hours.
