The new Aquawood Soft-Finish wood oil from Austrian paint and varnish manufacturer ADLER combines the benefits of modern, environmentally friendly water-based technology with the appealing properties of oil. This water-based wood oil gives wooden windows and window frames a natural look and a warm, waxy surface texture with a unique clarity—and is easy to apply.
In the window and frame industry, too, there is a growing demand for oiled surfaces. Many customers are consciously choosing windows and frames with an authentic wood look that have a natural appearance and feel pleasant to the touch. To meet this demand, window frame manufacturers need products that are not only easy to apply and low-odor, but also dry quickly and are efficient to use. At the same time, requirements regarding sustainability and environmental protection are becoming increasingly stringent: VOC emissions must be reduced, and the use of raw materials must be minimized. With its new wood oil, ADLER has succeeded in combining all these requirements: Aquawood Soft-Finish is a water-based oil that excels in terms of wood protection, environmental friendliness, and application possibilities.
“By combining the latest raw material technologies with modern production processes, our R&D department has succeeded in developing a contemporary water-based coating system with the typical properties of a wood oil,” explains Leon Cremers, director of ADLER Benelux in Heeze. The innovative oil provides a natural finish with very high clarity, good pore filling of the wood surface, and a waxy feel. The surface has a uniform, streak-free appearance without any gloss or roughness. Aquawood Soft-Finish is suitable for use on softwood and can be used both indoors and outdoors. “However, due to exposure to the elements, wood used outdoors must be maintained once or twice a year with ADLER’s Pullex wood oil,“ advises Cremers.
For processors, Aquawood Soft-Finish offers a number of advantages: the oil can be applied by dipping or pouring and stands out for its excellent flow and even coverage. This results in smooth, high-quality surfaces, eliminating the need for time-consuming finishing work. The water-based oil dries significantly faster than traditional wood oils, thereby ensuring efficient production and optimized processes. “Furthermore, we’ve been able to reduce the VOC content to below 3 percent,“ says Cremers. The low-odor oil is therefore particularly sustainable and pleasant to use. The coating itself is colorless and simply highlights the natural character of the wood, but those who prefer color can apply a tinted primer using ADLER’s Aquawood Primo. This makes it easy to meet the customer’s preferences.
