The R&D department of lighting manufacturer Exterus is running at full speed. A brand new family of luminaires was developed especially for the edition of Architect@Work in Kortrijk. A race against time, as it turns out.
Exterus is a loyal exhibitor at Architect@Work, whose recent edition in Kortrijk was very successful. The total event for architects, interior architects and other specifiers focuses hard on showing innovations that must also be approved by a national selection committee of architects and interior architects. The degree of innovation and the information provided play a big role in this. "Visitors know they will get to see a large number of innovations and that is what makes the event so interesting," testifies Juri Vannieuwenborgh of Exterus. "As an exhibitor, you know that the visitors are an interested audience that will get to work with your products. The ideal time to introduce our brand new Nala series. It was a race against time to have the first devices finished but we succeeded. And the reactions were top notch!"
Vannieuwenborgh: "Nala didn't just fall out of the sky. The success of our Micro Tube series made us think about both the built-in rose axis and the construction of the tube. A different vision, out of the box: everything was possible during these brainstorming sessions. The result is an extensive family that consists of more than 500 references due to the many possible combinations. We always use high-quality LEDs with high color rendering. Different light beams are possible: 24, 36 and 50 degrees."
All Nala's are available in three possible finishes: bronze (dark bronze), champagne (soft gold) and gun metal bronze (a softer bronze).
There are recessed, surface-mounted and pendant fixtures, and they are also available as inserts in Exterus' A-track-tif magnetic track system. Nala may be brand new, but it is at once a comprehensive collection that sees the light of day. What stands out about the Nala Magnetic Orb, the recessed version of the collection, is the way the tube is aimed.
"Directionality in itself is nothing new of course, but we do it here in a different way," Vannieuwenborgh explains. "No swivel, but a magnetic system that allows the tube to move close to the ceiling. Directionality thanks to magnetism, in other words. The magnetic recessed rosas are available in sizes 40, 60 and 90 millimeters so they can be used in various existing situations."
The Nala family also includes Nala On, Nala suspension and Nala A-track-tif. "Nala On is the logical name of the surface-mounted version in the family," said Vannieuwenborgh. "It is available in a Small (135 millimeters), Medium (222 millimeters) and Large (370 millimeters) model. We also offer three possible lengths for the pendulum version, combined with the different rose axis versions. Nala and Nala suspension are also toepasbeer in our A-track-tif magnetic track system. Nala then involves a single or double version while suspension is applicable in all sizes, complete with control via DALI and 1-10V."
