Durable and lightweight sandwich panels

Sandwich panels remain popular with design and construction professionals in the Netherlands. SAB-profiel is therefore giving full attention to these products, which the company says are unbeatable in price/quality ratio. The company's latest facade panels offer even more options for good design.

Using sandwich panels for the facade has many advantages, according to Manager of Product Services René Timmerman. "These panels are lightweight and offer a high insulation value. In addition, you are wind and watertight in one go. So you can build faster with this product. They also offer more flexibility than stony materials because the panels can be moved or replaced. Complete demolition is also not necessary and the material can be reused. We therefore speak of IFD; the sandwich panels are Industrial, Flexible and Demountable."

Of course, sandwich panels are not new to SAB Profile. However, the company made a fresh start in 2020 by producing the panels in a new factory. "In Geldermalsen, we have a much larger production capacity. The factory is gasless and, thanks in part to the use of solar panels, virtually CO2 neutral. Once we switch to electric forklift trucks we will be completely this."

Even better and again FM approved

Thanks to the new production site, SAB-profiel can even better meet the growing demand for sandwich panels. "We are always looking for a way to improve our panels even further. For example, the joint has been improved and with it fire safety and wind and water tightness. Also, we now offer thicker panels, which insulate even better. After the move, we went through the procedure again to get all our panels FM approved, and we succeeded. Thus we guarantee that the panels meet the highest requirements for insulated wall panels."

A trend in "sandwich panel land," according to Timmerman, is its use as a carrier panel. "First the architect was looking for a nice flat surface, but nowadays we see that this is only considered boring. People want to mount a profile plate, design panel or wood on top of the sandwich panels. However, the panels must be suitable for this. We have therefore improved the adhesion of our foam and work with a slightly thicker outer sheet. The coating of our panels is also guaranteed for 40 years. We are then happy to help architects with the right calculations and advice, so that they know which material to use and how best to mount it."

Creative possibilities of carrier panels

How carrier panels affect the appearance of a building can be seen, for example, at SAB-profiel's own building. "Our factory is 13 meters high. Because the bottom has a different color than the top, this is optically less noticeable. For another beautiful project in Wanssum, a factory producing casing soil for mushroom cultivation, we supplied facade panels finished Colorcoat Prisma® in the copper color Seren Copper. This is one of our standard colors, but we also make custom colors, such as a blue shade for Bol.com and an orange color for Hornbach. Last but not least, many of our coatings are maintenance-free. Thanks to our long guarantee of up to 40 years, the customer actually has nothing to worry about!"
