Event in Amsterdam hits office market well

Compact exhibition on workplace strategy well attended

The Workspace Design Show was held for the first time in Amsterdam on Oct. 11 and 12. According to organizers, the event was a resounding success. Attendees were also generally positive about the event, which brought together architects, interior designers and other workspace professionals.

After the first successful edition of the Workspace Design Show (WDS) in London, organizers Charlie Bark-Jones and his wife Esha chose Amsterdam as the second location . Would the concept work as well there? The WDS clearly targeted an international audience. In this, the fair certainly succeeded with 3,200 visitors from 42 different countries. During the event, they were able to get to know 75 exhibitors, who together filled one hall in the RAI. Of course, discussions, lectures and networking opportunities were also an important part of the concept. However, it would be nice if the trade fair could grow further, so that foreign visitors would get even more value for money.

Second edition is definitely coming

Charlie Bark-Jones is very positive about the first edition in the Netherlands. "There are always areas for improvement, but the overall feeling was definitely good! We are very pleased with the feedback from our partners, exhibitors, speakers and visitors at the WDS in Amsterdam. The consensus is that this show is a much-needed platform to share insights on the future of workplace strategy, design and culture in the Benelux."

The intention is definitely to have sequels to the event. "We are now looking at which dates are most suitable for this," he said. Already on the show floor, exhibitors could be heard hoping that the next edition will not conflict with other trade shows that are also important to them.

Good-humored exhibitors

"The quality of the visitors is high," said Hans Kok of the Ritswand company. "So for us this is an excellent trade fair. Booths are also on display at other companies, but we are the only one to offer a layout system with a patented zipper system." For this modular system, with which the Acoustic Bell Cell is also constructed, the company uses recycled materials as much as possible.

At Kettal's booth, the new pavilion O concept took center stage. "This event is exactly where the people we are targeting with this concept, the designers and architects," said export director Emiliano Marin. "Pavilion O is a modular concept, with which we offer a flexible way to zone offices while creating enclosed workspaces."

Like many companies present at the fair, Narbutas of Lithuania clearly focused on acoustics. Visitors to the booth could see, for example, the acoustic columns Parthos, which are largely constructed of PET felt. Incidentally, this material was also used for the special acoustic lamps at the booth.

Ahrend, of course, could not be missing either. The central theme was the 'Ahrend Furniture as a Service' concept. For a fixed amount per month, customers get a vital office furnishing that, according to the company, can easily be adapted to individual needs. Sales manager Rob Gimberg: "We then remain responsible for the products. The office market is certainly open to this because this concept also offers great flexibility."

Projectchair received many enthusiastic responses to the multi-purpose PC-V14 chair at DWS. Co-owner Martijn Reijman Hinze: "The visitors discovered that the chair is surprisingly comfortable and very easy to use. In addition, (interior) architects are warming up to the fresh colors in which it is available."
